Dire_Wolf
I'm just wondering who else have played it? And perhaps opinions on the new Settlers games? For those who haven't played the game, it's a simple with good music and graphic game. There is the romans, the trojans, the vikings, the dark tribes and the mayans. Here's gameplay video of the romans (or is it the mayans lol?):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1g_VOcXeI0 The settlers: Herritage of kings don't seem that bad though: The new Settler games from my view has lost what i liked about it, the simplicity. I played Settlers: Rise of an empire, which i disliked. There was to much focus on graphics and animations... The game video above might give a impression that the game is bad, but it's not. Danqazmlp
Settlers 3 is a game that basically hooked me into management/RTS games. I have always loved that in the games, they rarely focus on military (except heritage of kings which I did not like). This lets you get on with building great cities. The reasons you disliked rise of an empire are the reasons I loved it. Although i would disagree that it wasn't simple, as after playing the tutorial it is very easy. I loved the fact you could sit there and watch an item such as meat, go from a deer to the storehouse. Then see a tanner take the carcass from the storehouse to the tannery, work the hide out the back of hid shop, then put the finished product on sale at the front. Seeing that for a numerous items in the game felt great. The attention to detail grabbed me. And the fact the cities didn't stick out of the landscape, they actually fit in was good. I will definitely buy paths to a kingdom when it is released. Want to be my friend? sarg1010
So there isn't a huge military aspect of the game? This looks interesting if I could just build a city without having to worry about it getting crushed in the end. I like those build up and manage city kinds of things, only when you don't have to worry about pleasing major faction A and B at the same time, or one sends troops to crush you. And for anyone who cares, The Settlers:HoK's and TS: RoaE is on Steam. Unfinished netherrack symbol of Khorne. Never forget. ~creeper face w/single tear~ DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO?!?! The other aspects are there to help you get your army. However you have always opponents to worry about.
Danqazmlp
Rise of an Empire is much less military focused. A game really can't be military focused when you only have two troop types, swordsman and archer. But that is a great thing, it means you really can just sit there and build your own slice of the medieval world. Walls are VERY easy to build and seal off your city, and you are even rewarded for doing so as your citizens get happiness bonuses from doing so. If you are like me and just like to build a great city and then taking out the enemies is an afterthought, it really is a great game. Although i can't wait to see what the next one is going to be like. Edit: The first in-game i've seen from the new settlers 7, and I really love the look of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHGgodc2lJY I think it looks very close to Settlers 6, in that the cities look fairly realistic in that they don't stick out of the landscape like a sore thumb, and look like they work, yet keep that cartoon-y feel. I'm also intrigued as to the world map, can we finally play the settlers on the real world? I am very likely to get it, and may have to play 6 again just to refresh my memory. To those wanting to see 6 in action, here's a short clip which shows the upgrading of buildings and a whole city view: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwZFnMmSf04 p.s don't forget changing seasons! the changing seasons really add a new diversity to the games. The game plays through a 12 month cycle and depending on the map's climate (temperate, cold, hot etc) the seasons have different effects. In cold climate maps, winter lasts longer and will freeze rivers stopping your fishermen, wheat and crops will not grow, bees produce no honey etc. It also adds new ways to fight, in summer a river may create a natural wall to your city, but in winter the enemies will be able to cross it. Dire_Wolf
I stopped playing RoE so i did not get to the military tasks, but man only archers and swordsmen? THat's disappointing! Though i gotta say that archers+towers+walls = Awesomeness. But yeah it's quite nice building up your city, however i think i will like Settlers 7 more than 6. Danqazmlp
Putting archers in towers and walls was something the developers messed up on imo. Doing so gave the archers no range boost, so an army of archers would come to your wall and pick your archers off one by one as they were basically on equal terms. Want to be my friend? Hey are you maybe interested in seeing Settlers IV military fight? It's not a "WOW", but it's pretty OK  In Settlers 4 only swordsmen can fight the archers/swordsmen inside the towers/castles.
