Clicking repeatedly while using the pistol is more accurate than holding the trigger down, for those of you who don't know. You can try a little test by shooting at the wall in one spot using both ways and seeing which has a larger scatter.

And make sure you get used to leading your shots when you're using the sniper.

And I don't see why it's that much different from every other fps game out there. They all follow the same basic plan, just with different weapon selection, textures and characters.

There is a world of difference between the '4' major FPS games. Halo, Battlefield, COD, and Source games (specifically Counter-Strike). It's the 'feel' in the way they're played. I haven't played Halo that much so I can't really comment on it, but I have good experience with the other games.

Starting with Source, I've clocked over 1000 hours on CSS and the same amount on TF2 as well. The games are simply fun, there's something satisfying in their simplistic nature. Valve just made an fps, there is a small backstory but what they really made was a game where you load up, shoot your opponents and that's that. CSS doesn't feel very atmospheric, but there is a huge balance in it - no gun is really the clear best, just some are easier to use (M4, AK) - etc. It's just good.

COD is lame. Really lame. It was quite cool, then the 360 got released and Infinity Ward smelled money. COD4 was undoubtedly one of the best games of whenever it was released. But it didn't have much of a feel. You played through the same maps which.. are ok, but they're not amazing. They don't have great routes you can take which make you feel like a proper 'soldier'. The gameplay is so repetitive because every in COD is predefined. Simply; playing multiplayer COD4 gets old fast. In my opinion.

Battlefield is an EA game. Sounds crap already, huh? BF2 is still played by thousands today, and it's older than COD4 (I'm pretty sure). There isn't really anything special about BF2 in my eyes. It's a fun game, but it's not that forgiving and it's "feel" is quite average.

However.

Four days ago, Battlefield : Bad company 2 was released. And honestly, best "feel" out of any FPS ever. Ever. If you thought COD6 was gonna set the benchmark, you were wrong. It's this thing. I'd play it now, but some (moral) part of me feels that skipping school to play games is just lame. It's the first game I've ever played where the maps feel like a warzone, and not a multiplayer arena like the ones in COD and even Source games. There's dust, buildings falling down, roofs shot out, walls with holes in. And it's balanced - properly.

You might not agree with my syonopsis (?) of each game, but I hope I got the point across - every FPS has a very distinct feel which sets it apart from it's competitors.

I was busy with some college stuff today.

Anyway, I might be able to play Tuesday (tomorrow), but we just need to get in the server at the same time, or else it'll be boring with one person sitting in it and doing nothing for a few hours...

Anyway, I figured out how to "mod" the server. I'm not too satisfied with it, though. I really wanted to just customize the assault rifle in order for it to fire plasma grenades instead of bullets and add in a Banshee or Phantom into the game (for air strikes). Oh well.

There is a banshee on the blood gulch map, two actually, one at each base. As for weapon modding I sugguest you look for something allready made by a pro.

Also it was funny to see a post where today was refered to as tomorrow. Yeah I know it's just the time difference, it'd be way better if the time was constant all over the Earth in some way (it's not fun to wait for hours after school until someone else comes around, then wait some more and play dungeoneering/overlording from the time I'm supposed to go to bed until 03:00(although I've quit earlier these last days)).

If that's the case, obviously my FPS senses aren't refined enough to tell. Sure, the games feel different, but I don't see any clear winners or losers, and I enjoy all of them pretty much equally.

Whether that is a curse or a blessing, I don't know.

(Yeah, from what I've seen of B:BC2, it does look pretty awesome)

A really good FPS; GMod, a large HL mod where you can do anything, stargates, nukes, guns firing melons, you name it, it's already there. And if that ain't enough the primary game type is sandbox, there you can spawn guns, props, entities, vehicles and NPCs weld them together, use ropes, add explosives and even make large wired systems automatically doing anything at the click of a button (button can be bypassed).

Tbh, I struggle to class Gmod as FPS. It's sandbox, not shooter. Totally different to the rest of games I'd class as FPS, even the obscure ones like Shattered Horizon.

Here's the modded map so far:

-Floating Sniper Platform (sky)

-Portals to sky platform and other areas for sniping

-Watchtower at each base (useful for sniping or getting a better view of the enemy)

-Flying Ghost vehicle (flies like a Banshee)

-Warthog (rocket) that shoots fuel rods as you drive (no need for a gunner :P )

-Armoury containing several gun spawns.

Issues:

-Guy who created the original mod made each weapon fire different things...

-Assault rifle shoots sniper bullets.

-Plasma pistol shoots needler projectiles

-Plasma rifle shoots Master Chiefs

-You can only use frag grenades, and they look like rocks (totally [bleep]ed the hell up...)

-There are plasma grenades, but you can't use them...

-There is no pistol.

-You can't pick up the flamethrower.

-Blast radius of fuel rod was increased, so it's annoying to use without blowing yourself up...

-Sniper rifle shoots tank shells.

-Flying Ghost shoots machine gun bullets (which is cool, actually), but it also shoots copies of itself instead of the fuel rod bombs that Banshees have as a secondary weapon...

What I plan to do:

-Correct the projectile problem

-Add in a needler gun.

-Add in an energy sword spawn (if I can)

-Add in tanks.

-Add gun turrets.

-Add more stuff around each base so they look like forts (probably won't, though).

-Provide unlimited plasma grenades.

-Make the flying Ghost stop shooting copies of itself.

-Correct frag grenades.

I'm going to try to fix out the glitches and stuff. It will be a pretty awesome map once I'm done with it. :P

If anyone knows anyone that's good at modding/customizing Halo maps, please get them to help me. Thanks.

both fps and sandbox is correct

Are....not is...

Anyway, I think what Dungeonal means is that the game is not really a FPS because it doesn't try to have a story, or a setting or anything that gives the impression of it being a first person game... I suppose you can say that the perspective you shoot from is first person...but its kinda like saying Pong is a third person shooter...It just doesn't have any sort of feeling there, even though it meets all the critera.

some maps spawn enemies, there you can choose to just kill.

See, its sort of a 'meh, well you can do it, if you want, not much incentive though....' In a game of Halo or C&C Renegade( The ONLY FPS I have played, to my knowladge), you can run around stupidly and avoid shooting your enemies or whatever, but the game still shoots you back...the game wants it to be a FPS....Gmod doesn't want to be a FPS, it just wants to be a sandbox game...Kind of a 'me' in terms of game play...

'Look, you can do whatever the hell you like, there are some rules, but they are just here to stop the game falling apart entirely'

It's HL +

Civ 4 has a squad based game...one of the mods...It doesn't make Civ 4 a Squad based game though... Mods can completely change the nature of a game.

Anyway...

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Archi and I just confirmed that someone with Halo Demo cannot access my server because I have the full game. In order to access each other's servers, we must all have the Demo.

With that said, I am downloading it now and will mod it (just in order to make some of the weapons more fun to use).

Figured that you didn't have time, lol.

Anyway, I hope I can figure out how to mod Trial. The program I have been using to mod my paid-for version doesn't work with the Trial version of Blood Gulch. =\ I made a really cool mod on one map where the plasma rifle shoots plasma grenades (good anti-vehicle weapon) and the assault rifle shoots tank bullets (non explosive).

We can still play without the mods, though.

damn 2 hours later and I'm only 75% done the download. And I always have time for quickplay stuff. Well, okay not always but y'know. It's just I can't sit down and read 100 pages every day, I'm only on the computer for so long every day, and usually in short bursts. But I'd love to join you once I jack administrative rights from my dad to install the game.

We gave up on this after I got pissed off and deleted Halo Demo and Halo PC as well as all of my modding programs.

If you have Halo PC, you can't join a game that someone with Halo Demo hosts. Likewise, you can't really mod Halo Demo. Halo Demo was also extremely laggy for me and had bad graphics.

I guess we can probably pursue this again sometime in the future, but it seems to be too much of a cluster[bleep], in my opinion.
