So after we started using Photoshop in my Web Design class I figured I might as well take the initiative and learn how to! So i've been looking at tutorials and learning the basics of how to do things. I'll post all of my work into this thread. March 21, 201016 yr I'd say follow a different tutorial next time, all this one has told you to do is slap a gradient on, do a couple of brush strokes and smudge the outside of the render. Try one that teaches you to make a proper background and shows you how to use effects. Also, try to stay clear of text, especially when you're starting out. It can ruin your piece easily if not done well. Someone here has a good list of tutorials in their favourites on dA, I think it's either Pat or Ouchy. Maybe if they see this they could link you to that. Keep trying though. :)(Please please PLEASE refrain from using anime renders? :unsure: )

I think you're doing great, there's nothing wrong with smudging the render, nothing wrong with slapping on a gradient, and NOTHING wrong with using anime renders! My suggestion, add a border. 95% of the time, a border makes it look much better. I put a border on it so you can see the difference it makes:[hide][/hide] And gratuitous girly font and text of course.

I'd flip that statistic with borders. 95% of the time a full border looks worse. A simple bar top and bottom can look good, or just leave it completely. March 26, 201016 yr You're right about the lens flare, that was sarcasm, which doesn't go well on the internet. The rest is all true though. We must keep in mind that this is all new to him. There's nothing wrong with gradients. Sometimes a gradient makes things better. Sometimes a gradient gives it that extra touch. Anime renders, what's wrong with them? If you like a certain anime, what's wrong with using anime renders? And smudging the renders? Insanity just put up a tutorial. One of the steps... Here we go, wait for it... Smudge the render! Finally, the point of borders, I suppose one could say it's all aesthetics, and we have different viewpoints, but I'm gonna stand by a full border. I like how before I started typing this post I was standing in the middle of nowhere in Runescape with an empty chat box, and when I got back to it, I have 2 different people in my chat box now, calling me a noob.
