April 11, 201016 yr I'm starting to get sick of non fiction books and bad movies and need some suggestions. A few of my favorites are I hope they serve beer in hell, the alphabet of manliness, artemis fowl, the hobbit and lotr, the chronicles of amber, harry potter, () and the tomorrow series. I guess I prefer teenage fantasy because it's easier to get into, adult fiction seems to be full of authors showing off their vocabulary. Also looking for some movies similar to fight club and v for vendetta. Someone going against the norm with a philosophical theme sorta thing.
April 11, 201016 yr Read the first two books of the Gentlemen Bastard sequence. You will not regret it. The only movie I can think of immediately is law abiding citizen, but if you watch that you need to watch this as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjGrHBpfqCo 'Tis I, 'tis Vindice, 'tis I!
April 11, 201016 yr If you're looking for an easier-to-get-into book series, I would suggest The Belgariad series and its sequel, The Malloreon series, by David and Leigh Eddings. Each one has five books, The Belgariad starting with Pawn of Prophecy. For movies... I would say, 12 Monkeys and Crank. For mind[bleep] movies, you might check out The Fountain and They. fuer grissa ost drauka "Once committed to fight, cut. Everything else is secondary, cut. That is your duty, your purpose, your hunger. There is no rule more important, no committment that overrides that one. Cut. Cut from the void, not from bewilderment. Cut the enemy as quickly and directly as possible. Cut with certainty. Cut decisively, resolutely. Cut into his strength. Flow through the gaps in his guard. Cut him. Cut him down utterly. Don't allow him a breath. Cut him without mercy to the depths of his spirit. It is the balance of life: death. It is the dance with death." "Dance with me, Death." Bringer of death. "I am ready."
April 11, 201016 yr In terms of books, try Lee Child's Jack Reacher series. No suggestions for movies tho..
April 11, 201016 yr The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart is a good book, although pretty old. Also, I'm not sure if it's a series or not, but a book called The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Both are very good books, although The Crystal Cave is a higher-end book. Unfinished netherrack symbol of Khorne. Never forget. ~creeper face w/single tear~ DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO?!?!
April 12, 201016 yr It's adult fiction, but The Dark Tower series is freaking awesome. Its not a very difficult read, you might think Stephen King=horror but this is definitely a fantasy title. Synopsis: The opening chapter in the epic Dark Tower series. Roland, the last gunslinger, in a world where time has moved on, pursues his nemesis, The Man in Black, across a desert. Roland's ultimate goal is the Dark Tower, the nexus of all universes. This mysterious icon's power is failing, threatening everything in existence. SK describes it as Lord of the Rings meets The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
April 12, 201016 yr I'd go for Twilight! There's a whole series of books and movies! It's fantasy! It's for teenagers! And the girls like it! Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
April 12, 201016 yr Author Yeah I'm trying to get into dark tower at the moment because my brother has the first book. I knock out a few pages when I'm on the can (less than a chapter in now) and haven't quite gotten into it yet. Looks promising though. Will definitely check out the other suggestions. And the girls like it! Oh well if the other girls like it then I might too. I saw the 2nd movie and thought it was terrible tbh, are the books good though?
April 12, 201016 yr I don't know. I'm not really interested in Twilight. I saw the first movie so that I could chat along on parties, but that's all. I thought you were a guy, sorry. hehe. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
April 12, 201016 yr Ahahah. ^ I'd check out Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. The first couple of books started out as a kind of parody of the fantasy genre, but he's turned it into a full-fledged awesome universe, and it's insanely readable. There's something like 50 books in total, and they're all the perfect blend of hilarious and serious. There is an element of story progression, and most of the books have recurring characters/settings, but you could start at pretty much any book and know what's going on. I'd recommend the Night Watch subseries type thing, myself. Guards! Guards!, Feet of Clay, Night Watch, Thud!. Awesome characters, and awesome stories, though every book in the series is spectacular. ;D I think you may be a fan, there's really no designated target audience, I think I started reading them when I was about 13, and I'm still reading them today. I'll also vouch for the Belgariad/Malloreon series by Eddings, they're pretty decent fantasy. Also the ones by him involving Sparhawk are good, too, though their names have slipped my mind. D: sleep like dead men wake up like dead men
April 12, 201016 yr If you want an adult fiction writer who writes really exciting stories, try Wilbur Smith. I got into many of his books at 13/14 onwards, and didn't find them too dificult. Plus they're really action packed. My favourites would probably be the The Egyptian Series (4 Books, though not completely interralted, so you can still read them as a standalone novel) or Birds of Prey -Monsoon -Blue Horizon.
April 21, 201016 yr If you liked V for Vendetta, then read Army of the Republic, by Stuart Archer Cohen: it changed the way I view our society, and yes, it's fiction. "Those who give up their liberty for more security neither deserve liberty nor security." Support transparency... and by extension, freedom and democracy.
April 21, 201016 yr For movies... I would say, 12 Monkeys and Crank. For mind[bleep] movies, you might check out The Fountain and They. Crank and 12 Monkeys are both incredible. Mind [bleep] movie: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas hands down
April 22, 201016 yr The Tapestry series (2 books out atm, very much like Harry Potter, a fun read)Luthiel's Song series (also 2 books out.. more LotR-ish)His Dark Materials series (EPIC - enough said)The Companion's Quartet (not very.. sophisticated reading, for lack of a better word.. but I thought this series was fun)Percy Jackson & The Olympians (fun - especially if you like Greek mythology) Some of my favourite fiction books :P - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
April 23, 201016 yr Yeah Wilbur Smith books are pretty epic teenage fantasy, but more historically based, so I found it quite interesting.
April 24, 201016 yr For movies... I would say, 12 Monkeys and Crank. For mind[bleep] movies, you might check out The Fountain and They. Mind [bleep] movie: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas hands downIt's not a mind [bleep], it's a drug movie. Big difference. If you're looking for crazy mind [bleep] movies though I'd suggest Memento, The Machinist, Chinatown, Se7en....the list goes on. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."
April 26, 201016 yr For movies... I would say, 12 Monkeys and Crank. For mind[bleep] movies, you might check out The Fountain and They. Mind [bleep] movie: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas hands downIt's not a mind [bleep], it's a drug movie. Big difference. If you're looking for crazy mind [bleep] movies though I'd suggest Memento, The Machinist, Chinatown, Se7en....the list goes on. mind [bleep] as in by the end, you won't know what happened. Memento though...I watched it and found it pretty mediocre, especially watching the same scenes play over multiple times.
