Nexaduro
I'm making this to tell you guys about the new game Mather and I are planning, which I have taken the liberty of naming "Fallen Star," and to ask you a simple question: What do YOU want from a game? Current plans have this game inevitably set in the future. It would be best to assume that no real laws of nature apply, as I have *barely* a ninth-grade education of science and am not overly fond of Wikipedia. My immediate inclination would be to have the players control their characters on the ships, to avoid jumping between planets in a heartbeat, which should make the game more gradual and enjoyable. This is going to be relatively large-scale, with quite a bit of depth. Mather and I are currently working on an alien language that will repeatedly appear in-game, possibly along with a number of other languages. I enjoy the concept of you guys floundering about trying to understand what NPCs are saying. But, other than all of this (and a few other things I'm keeping secret for now) I don't yet have too many ideas. I COULD start the game right now, but I think it would be a bit more rushed, and a bit less coherent, than it should be. I would like feedback and ideas from you guys, and will update you guys on non-classified game info as soon as I can ask Mather whether I should tell you or not. ;) Let the planning begin! 10:53 PM - retech9691: I feel the need10:53 PM - retech9691: To include many chasms in my story arc10:53 PM - Resistance: You mean plotholes? The_Mather1
also.. why did you uote ME? of all people..Sorry to "spam" this up, but I think it might have something to do with that sentance also meaning (though not attempted in this case) something in the direction of getting excited, and not the way you get before trying something like a new game if you catch my drift. Nexaduro
Earthsage: Kay, and I quoted you because that sentence was so utterly horrible it made me laugh. Rocco: Sorry, maybe someday, but not soon. Who wants ultimate power when there's nothing worth doing with it? I'm going to make this game slower-progressing and more personal. Mather: Don't worry, you're not spamming it at all, you're the co-creator. Nexaduro
Ok, here's the current list of the different alien species in-game. What are they like? You'll have to find that out over the course of the game. Once they are discovered and described to a character, I will post their characteristics here. Xaa'riTelduarAndaerte At least two of those you'll be seeing/hearing about soon. There are three others I am not exactly ecstatic about including, though Mather seems to be. Finally, I have a question! Does anyone have an idea for a species name? Just tell me and I'll add it to the list! Unless, of course, it's a ripoff or just plain ridiculous. 10:53 PM - retech9691: I feel the need10:53 PM - retech9691: To include many chasms in my story arc10:53 PM - Resistance: You mean plotholes? Nexaduro
Make me a commander. Allow me to directly pilot my ship and gradually build a fleet.Actually, Rocco... I think there may be a place in the game for you... Currently, the only role that might fulfill that wish requires different... tendencies than you somethimes display. No, but I think you would make a good primary antagonist... 10:53 PM - retech9691: I feel the need10:53 PM - retech9691: To include many chasms in my story arc10:53 PM - Resistance: You mean plotholes? Nexaduro
I apologize to everyone that once again, a game of mine has failed. In Reanimated I let you advance too quickly and delegated control of it to a mod without much drive to keep it going, in Shades of Monochrome I made a flawed arbitrary system and the inner workings collapsed, and Fallen Star... well, Fallen Star is just too slow for you guys, and you weren't the best target audience for it anyways. On the bright side, though, I might be able to write a science fiction novel now! Anywho, I'm still on a quest to make a game that is easily understood, enjoyable for player and mod alike, and above all, balanced. The biggest problem is creating a world distinct from Dungeoneering, as I've decided I don't want to have to go through wikipedia looking for weapon articles for a modern game, or have to think up plausible mechanisms every time I make a post in a futuristic one. My current idea is to start off with the players as scavengers in the lawless slums of a humid northern city, where the immediate goal is to either conquer or escape your section of town and begin carving out your niche in society to allow for greater and greater expansion. The players will each have a distinct magic style governed by past uses of magic, a bit like the Shades of Monochrome system. I would do the same thing with combat styles, but only if you guys are willing to describe melee combat a bit more in-depth. Also, I would like to know if you would prefer limited or unlimited use of magic, and how those limits should be imposed (limited number of castings a la D&D, mana points system, etc.). Either way you won't always be able to rely on magic, because if you're used to blasting away enemies with fire then you won't be able to heal easily, if at all. Finally, I want to incorporate a bit of strategy into this in the form of controlling different areas of the game. Once an individual player (or, as unlikely as it may be with this crowd, a group of players) has a definitive hold on an area that is defined by some form of boundary I will alert them to the fact, add it to their character profile, and explain what they can do with it. So, could you all tell me what you think? Should I go through with this, and does anyone want me to keep making these games? I regret to fill the Tavern with unused threads, but I want to try and make something enjoyable for everyone. I may not be the most intelligent, witty, or innovative individual here, but I am at least blessed with determination! Well, determination to continue making games, if not to continue the games themselves. tl;dr:Making a new game. At least skim through the 3rd and 4th paragraphs. 10:53 PM - retech9691: I feel the need10:53 PM - retech9691: To include many chasms in my story arc10:53 PM - Resistance: You mean plotholes? Retech
The urban setting reminds me of soldiers of Napta. What would be different about it? Master of your domain? Nexaduro
Well, it's not as apocalyptic, and it has a fantasy-medeival setting... I'm basically combining the beginnings of "The Sword of Bedwyr," "Mistborn," and "The Way of Shadows" to make the beginning town. Honestly, I wasn't going to make it anything like what I've seen from SoN so far. 10:53 PM - retech9691: I feel the need10:53 PM - retech9691: To include many chasms in my story arc10:53 PM - Resistance: You mean plotholes? Icuownage
Soldiers of Napta is kind of dead a little. I look forward to this game, I was close to thinking up a game just to do something when I have nothing to do with my overly large amount of free time. It's a REALLY big shaft.I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time? Grim_
I would be more interested in unlimited castings of one or two schools of magic (ie you choose a school [ex: healing and conjuration] or two and you can only use them unless you progress so far that you could pick up another school [ex.necromancy or some type of evocation])
Nexaduro
Well, the game is beginning as we speak. Ieyfura
Hmm. The idea sounds interesting, but I think there should be a sort of free form RPing in this game as no others in the tavern contain it. Which, in turn, will make it a self running RPG, You could even play yourself, only needing to really interfere if someone tries to bend the rules. "Don't get in my face, don't invade my space. Retech
Indeed, there is a game. The Arena and its sequel are freeform, without really a moderator, but they don't work that well. Master of your domain? I am Lord of the manor, Queen of the castle, King of the county! Icuownage
That sort of stuff ends in "I shoot X point blank in the head""X dodges with super reflexes and shoots Y through the heart""Uuuuh X, you couldn't possibly dodge that, well anyway I dodge Y's bullets and fire at him some more""Well you dodged my shots to your heart, so I dodged the shots to your head, before X could even shoot I finish him off with a knife to the stomach""But that couldn't work out, this game is just stupid you couldn't dodge that" It's a REALLY big shaft.I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?
