Obbylinator
Hello all runescapers, I have just restarted runescape after many years - close to 6? and currently I'm a level 3 member - a very noob one as I found out the many changes to the game. I plan to be a pure 1 att Obby Mauler. Firstly all my skills are 1 (combat wise) and I have just reached level 47 wood cutting as of this post :) I was wondering if woodcutting is a good income generator? Also, I would like to ask if an Obby Mauler good for quest? For example a quest such as Horror from the Deep, recipe for disaster and the Fremnick Trials. What would you recommend if the Obby Mauler isn't good? What other pures are good both in quest doing (NPC killing) and PVP? And if an Obby Mauler is good enough should I train Magic and Range as well and at what level should they be? As I have heard that by training Magic and Range it will affect my constitution which will affect my combat level and a pure should have a low combat level. Sorry for the many questions. Thank you for taking time to read this. Cheers,Obbylinator.
gorofujita
Income on woodcutting is horrible, don't do it especially if you are a member. Hmm well not sure of your other stats, but for low levels I would say trying to get your herblore up high enough so that you can start cleaning herbs, as this can get up to 1m/hour, doesn't require combat at all, and is just a matter of massive amounts of clicking. Sy_Accursed
In this day and age of runescape pures suck for anything but PVP and even there they aren't hugely useful on members as an all round character will often easily crush you. But yea generally you would be better off just training everything and having a goal of max combat, as that is the only type of character that is truly "good" at PVP. PereGrin
If you want to be a obby mauler, then what most people do is use mage and range to get their slayer lvl to 55. This unlocks the slayer staff, which requires just 1 attack to wield, but you need 55 slayer. It is a decent weapont to use for lower levels, it is fast and has decent bonuses. John Halo Chief
It would be impossible for you to do Horror of the Deep, on account that you need all attack styles. I recommend resource gathering as a money maker-for example, flax- because it requires almost or no money, and it's easy. (Here's a tip; collect Honeycombs juuust to the east of flax. You need pesticide from a shack to the south of Catherby farm.)

Anyways if you really want an effective pure Turmoil pures (Using curses which require the quest Temple at Senntisten) are pretty much your best option although they require very high income. http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww6/aspeeder/Siggy_zpsewaiux2t.png 99 Strength since 6/02/10 99 Attack since 9/19/10 99 Constitution since 10/03/10 99 Defense since 3/14/11 99 Slayer since 8/30/11 99 Summoning since 9/10/11 99 Ranged since 09/18/11 99 Magic since 11/12/11 99 Prayer since 11/15/11 99 Herblore since 3/29/12 99 Firemaking since 5/15/12 99 Smithing since 10/04/12 99 Crafting since 9/16/13 99 Agility since 9/23/13 99 Dungeoneering since 1/1/14 99 Fishing since 2/4/14 99 Mining since 2/28/14 99 Farming since 6/04/14 99 Cooking since 6/11/14 99 Runecrafting since 10/10/14 9 Fletching since 11/11/14 99 Thieving since 11/14/14 99 Woodcutting since 11/20/14 99 Construction since 12/03/14 99 Divination since 2/22/15 99 Hunter since 2/23/15 99 Invention since 01/20/17 99 Archaeology since 5/14/22 99 Necromancy since 11/22/25 Quest Point Cape since 08/20/09 Maxed since 2/23/15 Fire Cape since 02/27/13 Slayer: 3 Leaf-Bladed Swords, 8 Black Masks, 2 Hexcrests, 26 Granite Mauls, 5 Focus Sights, 33 Abyssal Whips, 9 Dark Bows, 1 Whip Vine, 3 Staffs of Light, 15 Polypore Sticks Dragon: 10 Draconic Visages, 7 Shield Left Halves, 20 Dragon Boots, 40 Dragon Med Helms, 8 Dragon Platelegs, 6 Dragon Spears, 20 Dragon Daggers, 5 Dragon Plateskirts, 1 Dragon Chainbody, 63 Off-hand Dragon Throwing Axes, 19 Dragon Longswords, 27 Dragon Maces, 1 Dragon Ward Treasure Trails: Saradomin Full Helm, Ranger Boots, Rune Body (t), Saradomin Vambraces, Various God Pages Misc:1 Onyx,1 Ahrim's Hood, 1 Guthan's Chainskirt, 1 Demon Slayer Boots
Obbylinator
Thank you all, what is a turmoil pure and how should I go about to train my herbs levelling first? Also are pures really bad for PVP now? Also I would like to know what kind of 'pure' builds or other builds there are right now good for PVP and/or questing? Thank you all once again. Also I would like to know what kind of 'pure' builds or other builds there are right now good for PVP and/or questing? Thank you all once again. Google searched "Turmoil Pure Guide" and came up with this:http://www.mm-rs.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=65852 Seems like a pretty good build, however, getting turmoil is gonna be expensive as hell... I'm not even anywhere near it on my main, nor do I have anywhere near the cash for it. Goodluck though, seems like they can dominate the PvP scene. 99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving. Obbylinator
Thank you very much My_eggs. I was hoping that an Obby Mauler is still viable in for PVP? no? What is your take on it My_Eggs?
My_Eggs
Well, I don't really PvP, I'm more of a Slayer man myself, and I've never made an Obby Mauler, but from the sounds of what people have said, it seems Obby Maulers just don't quite cut it anymore and have become obsolete. I'd say that if you're really commited to it, and have the time to spend on it, go for the Turmoiler. Honestly, after reading that guide, I almost want to make a pure Turmoiler. 99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving. Sy_Accursed
As I said in my original post.In this day and age pures are largely obsolete for pking other than in f2p, as a well rounded character can easily beat them like 90% of the time.Pures these days are primarily for a challenge more than a functional pker, there are a few builds that can do okayish but they are expensive and take alot of time (eg turmoil pure) Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills :: Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA RewardsDragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue
Obbylinator
Alright then :) So what do you recommend me to do for combat skills? Sorry I'm a noob at these things. I do not know where i should start.
Rock Hard
Alright then :) So what do you recommend me to do for combat skills? Sorry I'm a noob at these things. I do not know where i should start. pick some flax til you get enough cash to tan hides for money - no skills needed focus on mage first if you want to quest, plus itl make getting around easier - and mages make the best low level f2p pures then work on your range, for p2p pking - pures aren't as bad as made out in this thread, especially at low and mid levels where they dominate, MAXED pures however struggle against ranged tanks and good zerkers 'Rock Hard' boss pure - 60/60 Attack | 99/99 Range | 1/1 Defence | 44/44 Prayer | 99/99 Strength | 99/99 Mage - level 79 combat EOC ## '07 Server ## "Best Runescape update ever: Removing 6 years of updates." Obbylinator
I have already picked flax until I have 200k. :) Will check out tanning hides. My woodcutting is 50 now. Hoping to get 60 soon for cutting Yews. How does that sound? I'm p2p now. I have 3 strength now. Should I go on and train attack and strength first? Or mage and range? Hope you can reply to this Gideon :) Thank you

Hope you can reply to this Gideon :) Thank you ok if you just want to pk asap for a bit of fun, spend your 200k on training mage to 35 via combat spells [for hp] [or 37 if you want fally tele, which is just plain useful], then buy some robes and lobbies and you WILL beat everyone you meet in pvp except other mages. you wont make any profit, runes are quite expensive - but its all a bit of fun yeh? :P mage is also most useful for completing low/mid level quests like lost city and horror from the deep after that, or if you dont fancy losing all that money just yet, a good starting base for your character would be 40 attack and 60 strength - much easier and much more flexible than an obby mauler kill chickens [picking up and selling all the feathers] til you can kill cows [picking up and selling all hides] - you'll make a decent bit of cash his way, and get your stats to around 30 attack and 30-40 str after cows, for p2p al karid warriors are great training [dont go the rock crap route, no drops] - they drop herbs and runes which you can sell, they hit low and are aggressive so you can tab out now and again - do that til your goal of 40 atk and 60 str you'll have a flexible character thats fun for basic f2p pure pking, with quite a bit of gold for whatever goal you want to shoot for next by that time you'll have tasted a str pure to know more whether you want to focus range or mage - or get def and build a tank / balanced character and as for woodcutting - if you enjoy it, go for it - yews are not a major moneymaker anymore - but you WILL make SOME profit, and if you enjoy wcing whos to tell you not to do it?
