I've never been that fond of watercolour painting but since I hit college I've found it increadibly fun to do, but I gotta admit it's hard not using white or black paints, all has to be in pure colour so you have to learn the ways of darking colours without black.. For instance to darken Orange you add blue (darken blue by adding orange), to darken red add green (darken green by addin red) etc.. to replace the effects of white to colour you have to use the white of the paper to tint (basically more watery and less paint on the brush), or if that fails use white gauche which makes the colour milky due to the presence of chalk.

Well here's some of my object drawings, based on senses so the objects are pretty peculiar, only my A4 paintings cus my scanner is too small for my larger paintings.

BTW, we're not allowed to draw anything out before hand to plan out were everything is going to be, it's all down to guessing and seeing whats in front of you.

Well this is a media discussion page so what do you think so far? Never really used water colours before, always stuck to acrylic with cartoony paintings, so I'm pretty stunned that I've taken to it so well.

nice job on the paintbrush. the glare on it is very well made.

The brush piece is my favoriteof all the nice work, the metal looks very realistic and overall it's a great pic to look at. I have tried water colors many times and to me it's a very hard medium to use which makes your pieces even better to look at.

I really like the brush, certainly the best out of the lot. Watercolour = Fun

Wow, you really are a well rounded artist. I like the brush one the best.

sorry. those are very good, the black part on the self portrait makes the piece!

Looks really nice Terley, thanks for the little waterpainting lesson also, never knew that about it.

Why should we buy postage stamps when we can make our own?

Your self-portrait looks somewhat cross-eyed for some reason, and the black thing on the watermelon looks odd.

yeah I know I look a bit cross eyed there, just probably down to guessing, as I've mentioned we're not alowed to plan anything out before hand litterally just painting as we see, no pencil involved at all. The black thing on the watermelon is a seed, kinda bled a bit into the rest of the painting because it basically working wet into wet, shoulda let it dry a bit before putting a black spot on it.

Btw your not even allowed to use black paint because in real life black doesn't exist, what you see is a dark tone, or a man-made colour from dark browns and blues. Same for white, basically just a tint made from chalk from what I've been told..

Thx for the comments, glad to see im on the right tracks.. On the record (I've probably said this before) These are the only water colour paintings I've ever done, so any mistakes would be down to just inexperience.

will post some more soon, I fancy doing a better self portrait cus that was painting was on a tiny scale (bout the size of a CD).. And I wanna try my hand at doing tricky like a glass of water or something.
