Hey guys. My dad just bought a new modem/router, as our old one stopped working. The new one is:

Linksys WAG320N DUAL BAND ADSL2+ MODEM AND ROUTER

 

Now, on both our old computer running xp sp3, and the main computer with vista, it connected fine. Heck, it even connects to my iPod, which is how I am typing this.

The problem, is my laptop. It is running windows xp sp3. It recognizes the network, but it keeps saying "validating identity" :(

 

Any solutions?

windows hates wireless. Its the only possible explanation. I've had my wireless go offline for all my windows computers for weeks at a time, but still work on my imac, macbook, linux and ipod touch -.-.

^ Pretty much sums it up.

 

Try:

Checking your Network Card and see if the latest Drivers are installed.

If you can manually put in the SSID/Address of the Wifi on your laptop.

If you haven't entered in the security details.

 

Dont bother with Microsoft's Guides on their site. They're just as useless as Vista 32 Bit.

Also, make sure you've got MAC filtering enabled and have the MAC address of your laptop "hooked up" with whatever access rule you have on your wireless network. I mention this only because, I had the same problem with an Iphone with the "validating identity" and so I just made sure I had the MAC addresses verified. :thumbup:

Sorry to seem rather, n00bish... But how do I check that I have the latest drivers, and then how would I got about updating it? Thanks in advance.

 

EDIT: Uhh... I got my internet working. I went into settings, and I just typed the password in manually. God I feel stupid. Feel free to lock now :rolleyes:

You obviously didn't do something. I have never lost the wireless connection on my laptop, may it be the time it was on Vista or now on 7.

And the fact that Linux hates wireless more than just about anything I've ever used is ringing a few alarm bells here.

Know what hates wireless? Remember those titanium macs?

That's funny.

The only problems I've had with wireless on Linux were related to chipset manufacturers not providing drivers. Even then, I was able to get some cards working with help from the community forums and projects like NDISwrapper.

That doesn't mean that it isn't a problem for some. :mellow: It happened to me many times in Vista.
