indy500fan
i remember when i last had anti-virus software. it was about 2 years ago when i cared about my runescape account, i also had a firewall. both lasted about 2 weeks before i uninstalled them because they are pointless. before that the last time i had anti-virus software was in 1995, and trying to uninstall destroyed my computer at the time. so out of the past 10 years, ive had anti-virus installed for about 2 weeks. and how many viruses (viri, whatever) have i had? none. jargon
Tech_Head's are noobs. They don't really know anything :) If the guy died and no ones ever heard of it then how did you hear about it? We advise you not to take any actions unless a tech head, mod or admin has responded on your thread. There are plenty of helpers on this board not currently in the Tech_Head group who are still entirely capable of helping - so don't disregard their advice. Just be cautious when dealing with things like HJT logs and the Registry, as the actions you take with those can potentially stop your PC from working Smile If tech heads are noobs....then why do we listen to them.... :? Resigned From Runescape - Alpha_120 --> Level 69 -ArenaScape-Join Clan UCORB ~ Rank #5 ClanClan members, need something? Unwanted operations leads to total computer malfunction!!!! WE ARE ALL DOOMED!

bjbj1991
the only operating system with out a virus to date is Mac OSX linux's viruses live only a few days so linux users are many times safer.

Well that statement is completely false. Provide your proof.... then I'll provide mine :) ok my sources are websites dated only 6 months ago. there is probly a few that have managed to get in. people who write viruses are like terrorists, they look for a large group of people to scare. some good hackers are even going to jail now days so they dont waste time on small fish. Security has been a major weakness of Windows for many years. Due to the widespread usage of Windows on desktops, many crackers (also known as Black Hat hackers) have targeted Windows rather than the lesser used operating systems such as Linux, Unix, Mac OS X, and FreeBSD. Windows was originally designed for ease-of-use on a single-user PC without a network connection, and did not have security features built in from the outset. both of these were taken from wikipedia and they show windows is the big target. Linux is open source so everyone on the earth (maby the ISS to) can read the source code. this means that both the good and bad people can read it. it also alows the users and distrubeters to modify the code to their own needs and can even locate security flaws so others can fix it. Sharper
What does that have to do with the Unix based Mac OSX?
bjbj1991
What does that have to do with the Unix based Mac OSX? never mind. it ment that almost everyone targets windows rather than an operating system that only about 5% of people use. Sharper
And that automatically means that: [*:1gihcqsf]There are no viruses on Mac OSX, and [*:1gihcqsf]Linux viruses only last "a few days".Er, how?
DaN
Windows isnt any less secure than linux its just easyer for negligent users to screw the system up. A problem with windows is that you have more access to the system as a "user" were as in linux you normally dont run as administrator for day to day stuff so viruses often dont have permission to install themselfs. with windows "users" are to restricted so most (myself included" run on administrator accounts meaning malware has all the access it needs to install itsself. Im on Linux but im swiching back to windows because thats were the problems are. (make sense?) ~Dan64AuSince 27 Aug 2002
