Darts vs Knives

Why do people use knives at all given darts exist?

 

I can understand why darts are cheaper than knives; you make double the amount per bar and the feathers don't cost too much.

 

However, I don't get why people advocate the use of knives at all. For the longest time, steel darts were around 25-30gp, much less than iron knives yet the same strength, accuracy, and speed. Now after the shops update and the release of bronze knife prices on the GE, that's true once more.

 

It remains consistent with all other knife and dart pairs. Addy darts and mithril knives are the same strength, but the darts are like 40-50gp less.

Knives give loads more ranged str bonus and i could be mistaking but i think they also have a slightly faster attack speed than darts.

 

The fast attack speed and stats combined with ferocious ring can dish out some heavy damage, as do darts but knives are just better overall. (if you can afford them)

Darts are way faster than knives although knives are stronger. This can be balanced though, at least for training. Because bronze knives are no longer unlimited, they've ballooned up to 75 each. Steel darts sell for 74 each. bronze knife is +3 while steel dart is +4, faster than bronze knives, and relatively the same price. I don't have experience with darts and higher level monsters though.

 

After checking the rs database it says both darts and knives have the same speed which is funny because I can honestly say darts are faster than knives.

Adamant darts and mithril knives have the same ranged strength and ranged attack, but addy darts cost less.

I've always used darts over knives, they're the same speed, strength and cost a lot less.

Yeah, I guess people don't realize that if you go up a metal, it would be the same accuracy and strength.

 

Steel knives = Mith darts

Steel knives cost more than mith darts

 

Personally, I buy the mith darts and have been using them for a while. I don't buy knives anymore because the darts are much cheaper.

Perhaps that is because adamant darts are easely obtained by killing iron or bronze dragons while no other monsters drop mith knives that i'm aware of.

But is that true for all darts? If you look at all of the knives and the dart 1 metal up, you'll almost consistently find that darts are always cheaper, but the same strength.

No really, as a rule knives are stronger than dart counterparts. So the average player will go, "oh, knives are stronger than darts, and better metals obviously cost more, so I guess knives are the best buy. Everyone around me is buying them as well".

Alright, well as long as there really isn't a reason why I should be buying knives over addy darts then I'll continue to enjoy my economical ranging ammo :D

They have the same speed.

 

Tier "x" of knife has roughly the same stats as tier "x + 1" of darts.

 

Knives have longer range.

ive been using dart for a while and i agree they are a way better ranging method then using knives.

there is the cost difference but most of all there is the huge buying speed difference!!

 

ive trained for quite a long time using bronze knives but those where hell to buy once u ran out! now i just put an offer for max in ge for mith darts and after max 20mins ive bough all.

 

so yea id go for darts. the knives might have a slightly longer range but that is useless for most tasks since u dont safespot anyway

I think that range difference is useless anyway unless you're using it for some application in PvP or there's a certain safespot that only works at long range.

It doesn't really matter in the end because you'll just run over a little to your target and/or it'll wander over to you.

It doesn't really matter in the end because you'll just run over a little to your target and/or it'll wander over to you.

 

There are actually a few spots I've tried with a bow that work at long range without the use an obstacle. If you attack a monster outside of its wander range, it'll begin backing up. In normal cases like you mentioned, your char will be out of range and need to move closer and thus the monster will be able to attack you again. However, if you place yourself right, you can make them back up into a wall. You'll still be able to hit them without moving forward.

the only real answer to that is the same reason people continue to alch for mage xp even though its horrible and its because people follow the crowd :P its dumb but they do it thats why so many people got cls at start over cr and why people are useing knifes instead of their ecanomical dart counterpart
