In an interview posted on the DVD Fanatic Website, Simpsons producer Mike Reiss confirmed that a feature length Simpsons film is in the works with a possible release date in the summer of 2006. Reiss told DVD Fanatic that he and fellow Simpsons producer Al Jean and five veteran Simpsons writers were working on the project. According to Reiss, the producers of the show have wanted to create a feature film since season 2 -- "It's been 13 years of wanting to do The Simpsons Movie. Finally Fox said 'Let's just do it.' We never had the greatest idea that was compelling, but Fox said, 'Maybe if we start paying you, you'll get inspired.' And sure enough it worked! We got a very good and interesting idea and it's different from the show."

While Reiss wouldn't divulge any plot secrets, he did indicate that the project was on track for a 2006 debut, either in the summer or later in the year at holiday time.

that would have been awesome news about 7 or 8 years ago when it was at its greatest, but now its not really as important to me. the quality has dropped, and i just cant get worked up for it. i will see it though, its bound to be slightly funny :D

That just about summed up all I was about to say.

Well put indy :D

I read that a few months ago, I heard they might even make several (sorry if that's in the article, I don't feel like reading it.) But yea, it's definately downhill, and I think that they should just finish this season, attempt a bang, and then let it become legend instead of slowly commiting comedic suicide.

New writers = knob heads. Simpsons should have stopped at 300th episode imo...they just kill jokes so badly.

I hope this means the end, I really do, they should have ended like Springer, or Lance Arstrong. At the top.

Before. The 300th episode was terrible. That was the one where Homer fought Tony Hawk on flying skateboards, if my memory is correct.

I thought was good :? .

You do realize that this means it will be the end of the simpsons? I remember an interview at some point where the makers said that if a movie ever came out, that would mean they are about done.

Well, they still had a good run. Probably the reason they did not stop earlier was to make more money for retirement lol. I still love The Simpsons no mattr how long they on or how old the jokes are.

I accept your opinion, but here's why I think it was bad: It had everything that was wrong with The Simpsons rapped into an operhyped episode (because it was the 300th).

For example, the reason it's become so bad is because: They have way to many celebrity guests, they leave Spingfield too much, they add random, 1 episode characters when they already have so many to work with that we already know about and can be built on, and finally, it's just plain stupid to have magic-like stuff. That's what made The Simpsons good, is that it didn't have to rely on stupid humor, and it could put in subtle jokes, and mad allusion and inside jokes. It didn't need stupid crap that would never happen.

And you'll notice that all those factors have significantly in the last few years. You pretty much can't go a new episode without having a guest, or a celebrity in it.

yeah they really started overdoing the celebs. gotta admit though, the episode with tony blair had me cracking up...

Lol too many ;) references...my parents are seriously concerned...

Woah, can't imagine the movie plot.
