mining

Keeping a lookout for falling stars is a nice way to train mining.

The mines south of draynor and under the grand tree are good, as is the resource cave in the mining guild for wich you need level 45 dungeoneering to enter. If you want to level crafting too, the shilo gem mine is a good spot to work on both skills together.

The desert south of Al-Kharid. You need a shantay pass and go through the gate, then buy a carpet ride to the Bedabin camp for 200 gp. You can look on your world map there. Make sure to buy some waterskins from Shantay, or you'll die of thirst.

Yes it is. There's a quest you can do to get a Camulet, which I believe teleports you very close to the granite. The best way to mine there is to mine 3, then drop 3. The rest of your inventory should be full of waterskins. Keep an eye on them so you know when you're out of water. Desert clothing (the white robes Shantay sells) drastically reduces how often you have to drink. There's another quest you can do that gives you access to an enchanted tiara that acts as waterskins for you. You charge it up with water runes.

Itchlarin's little helper and Dealing with scarbas are the quests you are talking about, i believe.
