Slayer Gear?

Goldenjkered

Recommended Posts

I was just looking for ideas on what to wear on the torso and legs when it comes to general training of slayer. I used to use combo's like Fighter Torso and Dragon Legs, but I want something a little better now. I would like Bandos Chest and Tassets but can't afford them at the moment (just bought a dfs). What do you normally wear in those slots?

Optimal slayer gear tips

sell your dfs, buy verac skirt, prosy top/bandos top, buy prayer pots and pray a min 5% on all tasks.

I kind of an old school slayer, so no piety or other boosting prayers I'm afraid. I was looking for more plain defensive gear setups.

Sell the Dfs, it's worthless... Get super antifires with the money. Use a torso and a verac's skirt/torag's legs.

Why can't the Big Bang be done by the hand of God?

It could have, but it is next to impossible because it also could have been caused by the flying spaghetti monster, or one of the other infinite number of deity possibilities.

optimal slayer gear for meleeing:

rapier/whip/ss

rune defender

full slayer helm

fury

bandos chest (or torso)/prossy top/karil's top

verac's skirt/karil's bottom

dragon boots

zerker/ferocious ring

soulwars cape

barrows gloves

all "basic" single combat tasks (abby demons, desert strykes, jungle strykes, gargoyles, greaters, hellhounds, living rock creatures) tasks should be done in the bandos chestplate with piety, extreme sets and a bunyip.

All "mage based" tasks (abby specters, waterfiends, bloodvelds) should be done with karil's a bunyip/unicorn, extreme sets and 10% strength prayer.

All single combat "prayer tasks" (dark beasts, iron dragons, steel dragons, mith dragons) should be done in prossy with piety and a beast of burden.

All "cannonable" tasks *if using a cannon* (abberant specters, bloodvelds, dagnoths, wyverns) should be done with a cannon, prossy extremes, the appropriate protection prayer, piety, and a combat familiar.

All "chaos tunnel" (Black demons, dagnoths, dust devils, fire giants, nechs) or "multi cb" tasks (kalphites, tzhaar, warped tortises, spiritual mages, suqahs) should be done wtih extremes, piety, bandos chest plate/prossy, and protection prayers if needed.

I may have missed a few special cases (ice strykes) but thats the general idea.

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).

I dont see how you being an old school slayer prevents you from using prayer during tasks, and if you actually were, you would know that you could run around doing slayer in rune and you would be pretty much covered against most of the monsters defensively

Eh, back then there was no really efficient way to pray on training. Now there are plenty. Especially if you get a soul wars cape, etc.

Just like, Guthan is far less commonly used now because of easier alternatives.

Disclaimer: The above is probably inaccurate.

I think it's more of a personal thing. I've just never been interested in the whole efficieny thing. I just wanna slay for fun, and using prayer potions during tasks just makes it less fun for me :???:

Then if you dont want to change your ways or accept how its done effeciently continue to do what you want. You dont have money for bandos, you wont sell your DFS, you don't want to use prayer/extremes or spend the time/money to do so. So then thats it theres not much more too it.

Least make sure you get your slayer helm (full) if you use magic and range ever.

I'm happy with proselyte top and legs on most tasks. Unless i need magic defence in which case i wear karil's. Always turmoiling tasks, which imo makes them both more efficient and more fun.

I didn't say that I won't sell my DFS, I just hate this whole 'were playing runescape we have to be efficient as possible' style that's come out in recent years. To me it just seems like people aren't playing for fun anymore, just trying to grind money and xp out just to get better, nevermind the fun factor. I already have a full slayer helmet by the way.

I didn't ask for efficiency advice, I simply wanted to know what people wore when slaying in the body and legs slots to give me some ideas on what might suit me. Not once in my first post did I use the word 'efficient' or 'efficiency'.

Barrows platebody and legs if you can't afford Bandos. Slaying this way is ridiculously slow and mind-numbingly boring, though. I have much more fun using turmoil, extremes, and a steel titan.

most people here slay efficiently, so expect efficiency answers

Anyways, I would honestly sell the DFS (since the ONLY thing it's best for is Skeletal Wyverns), and buy Bandos chest, Karils top and skirt, z spear and if you have enough left over Tassets (I would say Verac skirt, but you don't wanna pray, so yea)

Once you have enough money to sell your tassets and get extremes, do that, efficiency or not, they're easily worth getting. You can just replace the tassets with a which ever Barrows legs are cheapest (Guthan)

Thanks for being constructive :) If I had access to extremes I would honestly use them, stat boosting potions aren't really a problem, I just don't want to shell out money for a large number of prayer potions. I'll probably go with selling the DFS and buying Bandos Plate and Tassets, although with the DFS and my current cash my spare total only comes to around 57- 58 mil which won't leave much behind for Karils/Guthans/Zerker Ring, although I could just use a Kuradels ring everywhere and wait till I can afford a Zerker again. Thanks for the advice

Tbh Tassets aren't worth it unless you have millions left over in your bank, by all means get the chest plate but save yourself 22m or however much Tassets are nowadays and use a barrows leg like torags or dharoks depending on which is cheaper.

And if I remember rightly in your 1st post you said you had a Torso, if so use that instead of buying a BCP as on most tasks a Torso + Barrows legs + Bunyip/Unicorn is enough to keep you alive. (And you can always take cheap food too).

It's worth noting that it's actually more profitable to use turmoil than not to use it. Slayer only drops severely in profit once you involve a cannon (which you should on some tasks at the very least). With the proper gear, you only need about 10-12 prayer potions per task on average, which is chump change considering how much faster you'll complete the task (and thus gain money and points faster).

There you have it. Your asking for help but don't want to conform to the most effecient ways... What do you want? Do u want me to tell you to go slay in full granite just because it will be different?

I used to use combo's like Fighter Torso and Dragon Legs, but I want something a little better now. I would like Bandos Chest and Tassets but can't afford them at the moment (just bought a dfs). What do you normally wear in those slots?

I wear verac skirt and bandos chest.

Defense becomes a bit less important the closer you get to 99 def. And with the note that I always used super defense pots (and later extreme) for many tasks, unlike many who think defense is a waste.

I also slayed a lot on verac skirt and verac top. That could be an alternative.

And until 90 slayer I was wearing mostly d skirt and guthan plate.

Just do what you like and don't worry too much about it. The further you get in slayer the less important defense gets, because your defense level increases and you get access to better ways of healing. By the time i got a unicorn I actually didn't really need it any more.

And if you have soul split all that defense also become a bit a moot point. So, start working towards that for instance. But for most slayer tasks a regular noob outfit and a bunyip works well enough.

If you want to tank the more serious stuff such as iron dragons and dark beasts consider the fact that you can semi-tank. For this verac skirt and top is quite nice. You have some decent defense and an excellent prayer bonus. Use the bunyip for healing (or SGS, or soul split) and if the dragon/dark beasts starts outhitting your healing slam on the protection prayer for a while. Let yourself heal back. Use a special to heal (SGS or that other thing i never used). take protection prayer off. Just be sure to use defense pots.

I found this semitanking quite relaxing and fun. You feel like you are actually fighting something dangerous. In the sense that you could die and not that you are just hacking away under the umbrella of a protection prayer.

This doesn't work of course for miths.

The outfit you have is quite nice. Try to add some stuff for variety. Try to see what works best for what task. If you don't need barrows armour for a task, don't use it. If you do use it. exchange parts. When your stats improve change more.

I'm an old school slayer myself. I started slaying pretty much when it came out. It took me years to get to 99. Didn't even have guthans till I hit 80 slayer. I was just using food and rune plate + legs. There was no summoning yet. Above 90 I relied on my trusted SGS and summoning for healing. After I hit 99 i finally got soul split. Sold my SGS for that. And noticed that slaying became pretty much extremely easy. Healing was suddenly no problem any more in most situations which allowed for combat familiars to come along.

I never did piety for tasks. at the end I sometimes used the 5% strength prayer.

So no worries. Just slay and have fun. You will get there in the end.

Standard slayer gear for me:

FSH

Fury

SWC

Pros top

V skirt

D boots

Barrows gloves

Berserker (i)/fero

Whip

Defender

Claws for spec

Ovl+turmoil all tasks, healing done with soulsplit flasing. Spec rstores on most tasks. Protection prayers used on KQ if I decide to kill her, and dagannoth if I kill in CT. Food used on miths, KQ, and KBD only. Maybe waterfiends too now that I have a iron titan I'll do in CT. Bloodvelds are cannoned as well as dags if I don't feel like killing in CT. Depending on the task I'll swap to karils top/bottom, torso, or monk bottoms. Bob used on tasks with lots of drops (dragons, specs) else I have a magpie out. Combat familiar for multicb tasks. I duno about you but I enjoy hitting high.
