Rhino935
So I am planning on camping at iron or steel dragons at the fortress in the wilderness for 99 defence. My question is should i kill steels or irons and what set up should I use? I will be using a zamorakian spear and super antifires. Thanks :) You just lost the game. glasscube
Steels consistently drop better lower value items (a bunch of rune items like bars and limbs) but iron dragons are much easier to kill. I wouldn't camp either if you are looking for experience. Help drive change Canada

Knight_Zaros
I don't think you could have a worse plan for 99 defense than that honestly. Defense is already slow compared to attack/strength, Then you got a slower weapon (ZS vs. whip+defender), and your doing it on a insanely high level dragon. But to help you out with your question. I've leveled magic from 70-98 (currently and going) all at metals Irons/steels. Steels are much better IMO in terms of lower-mid range drops. They drop alot of rune, and the stackable rune throwing items can really add up especially if you end up slaying a few thousand of them. I mean a rune knife drop is like 15k, and its stackable! The drop rate for rares is said to be slightly better on steels, I dont count kills or anything but from my experience I will agree with that as well as I did most my magic training 70-85+ on irons and alot of range training there too and never got a visage but I did get my visage from steels, and I do long magic trips 3-5k casts generally and typically come out with a dragon drop from a steels trip but not always an iron. Rhino935
The main goal was to make money, not to get 99 defense. haha You just lost the game.
glasscube
Only reason why you would want to go out and kill metal dragons are for elite clues, and those aren't guaranteed money either. You are better off training your stats at something like AZ, or making money at somewhere like green dragons. Help drive change Canada
Aiel
its still a terrible idea tbh. Metals are bad money. DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers ringsQBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow partsCR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size....It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty). Actually, ZS has 6 bars for it's attack speed, the same as a whip. And daggers. And scimitars. Check the in-game RS manual if you don't believe me. Knight_Zaros
Yeah... and whip/defender are better stats strength and attack bonuses... In most situations whip/defender > zs hands down unless your fighting something extremely weak vs. crush. We're both right, never said ZS was garbage, it has its uses, I own one... lol Please Visit my Blog!- Experienced Monster Hunter - Forced Retirement Staker - Privite Chat is always ON -1 Draconic Visage 26 Dragon Drops 1 GWD Drops 17 DK Drops 13 Coinshared Items
K4ylan
Just kill whatever's closer to you, that way you don't have to run around aiming for certain dragons and it will feel less tedious and annoying. ~~~The Harpy List~~~Harpy Facts~~~It's Super Effective~~~The Beginning~~~Harpy Therapy Center~~~Alg~~~Jedi Harpy~~~Rohirrim~~~Attenuation~~~

TheAncient
Another option is to get 85 DG and then train at frosts. They give you charms, effigies, and lots of money. They aren't too hard to hit if you have a rapier and decent attack level. Ever wanted to find street prices of RS items? Bladewing
If you decide to kill them anyway, kill irons. Be on lunar magics, so you have the ice plateau teleport. Bring a tortoise, and once you are filled up on bones, tab out, bank, and teleport back with ice plateau. svs
You shouldn't just alter your ways of training or money making just because a lot of other people tell you their idea is better.Their idea might be better for themselves but you had the idea to kill some dragons get some def exp and make some money. There's nothing bad about that idea, surely there are better ways but those "better" methods aren't necessarily the most fun methods.I also do it every once in a while, killing some monsters that aren't a slayer task because it gives some variaty. Iron dragon make more money only (and i mean only) if you bank all the bones they drop.Otherwise you'd be better of killing steel dragons as has been already pointed out, those give pretty decent loot for their level while irons don't. if i were you, i'd continue what you were planning to do.I'd summon myself a lava titan that will teleport me to the lava maze at lv 40 wildy, it's a short walk from there or you can teleport yourself there with the use of ancient magics.Or you could use a healing pet and be in heavy prayer gear and pray piety to speed up the kills.I would high alch drops like limbs and rune meds and anything else that has the same alch value as GE mid.I would bury the bones, with a spear and super antifires it's damn good pray exp!Everytime you get a clue i would go solve it, since the fortress isn't in the wild you could HT. Once you get tired of that, you go do something else which is more fun than perhaps the thing you were doing that gave you this idea. Not really. IF:Premise: (we want defense xp, we want money, we want fun) THEN:Frost dragons is a better method than irons because you make more money, get more defense xp, and is still fun. Feel free to disagree with me that frost dragons aren't fun - but that's kind of silly, the game mechanics for killing both frosts and irons are about the same.
