August 16, 201015 yr My favorite jazz is the work of Maynard Ferguson. He was quite popular in the 70s. He can hit all of the highest notes on his trumpet and is able to breathe while playing. His most notable work was the Rocky Theme Song :thumbsup: If you like big band jazz, this is a great guy to listen to. He was so popular, that following his death at 78 in 2006, the jazz world mourned and held a very emotional tribute concert in his honor. My father attended the concert, and it was phenomenal (I saw it on DVD). August 17, 201015 yr John Zorn for something a little different. Yes. If you're looking for lots of saxophone, something really interesting, different and kinda crazy - John Zorn. His Bar Kokhbah and Masada stuff doesn't have much saxophone [any at all if I remember..], but I like that. :thumbup:

To TS: if you want to try something more 'easy' from Zorn, go for The Dreamers or Alhambra Love Songs...If you're into the more challenging work you could try some work from Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Orchestra.
