xpx
steel are worse magic experience as they have more mage def, drop elite clues and you have a minute chance of visage while abyssal demons are easier to kill with a more-or-less guaranteed profit(whip per ~475 demons). There is no clear favorite, however, for efficiency, abyssals seem the better option. First to 99 Farming on 27. September, 2005.First to 3766 Port Score on 20. Troacctid
Definitely abyssal demons. Lower mage defense and better drops. Read my blog | Follow me on Twitter | Track my XP

Knight_Zaros
Ahrims hood has same mage bonus as farseers helm. No reason to use it and have to repair it. I can't do abbys but I love steels. I did magic from 75-99 almost exclusively at metals and it was honestly fun, every minute of it. Only reason I did it. sumondskull6
Do you profit from maging Abyssals?Yes, certainly. It's not much but it's magic. Just to back this up with numbers. Assuming I'd use a Wolpertinger, and always kept my mage level at 99-102 and I use a SoL + ASN, and using Fire surge:280 x 1.42 = 397 max hit. Hits are random, so lets assume an average hit of 198.Abbysal demons have 1500 LP, and with an average hit of 198, it would take an average of 8 spells per Abbysal.East cast costs 932gp, that's 7,456gp per Abbysal demon. Now lets assume a drop rate of 1/475 for whips, and a sell price of 3,250k per whip (It's slowly but surely dropping.)This means each Abbysal demon is worth 6,842gp. You loose 614gp every kill, but this is assuming their only drop is a whip.I'm not going to take the time to calculate how much gp you gain per Abbysal through other drops worth picking up. However, I assume that the alchable rune drops alone add up to more than 614gp per kill, not to mention the pure ess and gems, and if you put a dollar amount on crimsons, I'm almost positive that you at least break even maging Abbysal demons. As far as gear goes: Tank. 0 or higher mage bonus and you'll hit nearly every time. Saving 50% of your runes with Battle robes at the loss of 12% or more damage and using a uni to tank might profit more, it might loose more. But basically: Does the cost of uni scrolls outweigh the saved money of using 4 runes worth of spells to kill each Abbysal. From memory I think that's something like using 8/9 uni scrolls per Abbysal to make it cost more than using a Wolpertinger and tank gear. But I'm not doing those calculations tonight, I'll do them tomorrow, but in conclusion: I think using Battle robes saves you a LOT of money, at the cost of speed. Plus you have to repair the robes every 6 hours of combat.
sumondskull6
Battle robe tanking with uni:280 x 1.30 = 364 / 2 = 182 average hit, or 9 spells to kill an Abbysal. You save 50% of your runes with SoL + Brobes, so you'd only be using 4.5 casts worth of runes each kill (5, 4, 5, 4, 5, etc, etc.)932 x 4.5 = 4,194gp + lets give the Abbysals the benefit of the doubt and say they each hit 280 damage on you, that's 2 scrolls, or another 700gp.This brings the total cost of killing each Abbysal to 4,894gp.Now remember each Abbysal is worth a minimum of 6,842, assuming your whip drop rate is average. You're making 1,948gp per Abbysal on whips alone. MUCH better than tanking, however, the kills will be somewhere between 12 and 21% slower, and it requires 88 summoning and a battle robe set, which aren't easy to obtain. SpikeStr1ke
just mage stuff on task. the FSH bonus is worth it. only way u slay is melee or range i dont like mage slaying as not many of the tasks are very good to mage other than black demons (blocked), Steels (blocked), Iron's and abby's.
