I believe 2GB is the current limit that a 32bit OS can handle easily.

A 32-bit OS can handle up to 4GB. I'm surprised a Jagex mod doesn't know that!

The key words in his post are "handle easily." He didn't say 2GB was the max and he is somewhat correct in his statement. Windows 32bit machines do not give applications the full access to 4GB of memory. In fact, only 2GB is addressed to applications while the other 2GB is reserved for kernel use (operating system files, drivers, etc.) There is a work around called the "/3GB switch" that gives you another GB to work with (and giving the kernel one less), but even that doesn't make the applications immediately aware that it is available and have to have a special process header to use it. So it isn't true that the OS can't handle 4GB easily, it is just the applications that can't. This is also true for 64bit but the numbers are much much larger.

They should have upgraded w117 it lags like a mother trucker.

My thoughts exactly. It doesn't sound like this will solve the lag issues though.

One could always hope for atleast some improvement on the world.

What does this actually mean in normal words for people who dont understand computers very much?

Nothing.

Short and sweet, gotta love it. :D

Good to know they're upgrading though, always nice.

I've always wondered what servers they ran on. It's hard to believe a whole HD world with 1k+ players on at once ran on only 4gb of memory.

Actually, Jagex are right, it can handle 2Gb, well, it can hold 4Gb or maybe more but only 2Gb of it would actually work.

3.5 ;)

Even if you can only use two on applications, the server as a whole can still use more...weird wording.

The upgrade will migrate them from a 32 bit operating system to 64 bit which will allow us to address more memory in the future. I believe 2GB is the current limit that a 32bit OS can handle easily.

And this comes from a jagex' employee? Wow.. Really a 32 bit OS can handle 4GB(!) RAM

2^32 = 4GB

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.
