Can I reasonably beat Nomad?

Featured Replies

My stats will be:

Ranged 75

Defence 78

Constitution 82

Prayer 71

Magic 76

Summoning 58 with Spirit Terrorbird/Kyatt

I am planning to use Black d-hide body and chaps, Barrows Gloves, Blessed Spirit Shield, Snakeskin Boots, Ranger's Amulet, Obsidian Cape and a Rune Crossbow. My ammo is ruby bolts (e), then switch to diamond bolts (e) when he goes berserk. My inventory is sara brews and super restores, at a ratio of 3:1, and the terror bird also has brews and super restores in the same amounts, as well as a spirit kyatt with ambush scrolls. When he goes berserk, I'll dismiss the bird and spam ambush with the kyatt. I might also be able to borrow a bandos godsword for the special at the start.

I'm just concerned about the use of a Terrorbird. Will I run out of brews/restores because I haven't got a War Tortoise? I've run out of charms in my bank, and having to get level 67 summoning will be a really big inconvenience for me, so I'd rather clear it up before I have to go charm hunting.

EDIT: Since the heart-stoppingly surprising revelation that Nomad is actually a difficult boss, I'm definitely going to grab the levels for a War Tortoise. I'm asking anyone for tips for beating this guy. I understand what I need to do with the pillars, and have a friend willing to lend a BGS, it's just that I often find that I've drunk three sara brews and a restore, only to find that in that time I have just as much health as before. I end up wasting far too many combat turns. Any suggestions for improvements on equipment, levels, or technique? I'll also make clear what I am using a bit more clearly:

Current Equipment:

Black d'hide body

Black d'hide chaps

Helm of Neitiznot (With Ambush Scrolls)

Barrows RFD Gloves

Archers' Ring

Snakeskin Boots

Blessed Spirit Shield

Rune Crossbow with Ruby Bolts(e)

Bandos Godsword (Lent) for special

Spirit Terrorbird (With Saradomin Brews and Super Restores 3:1 ratio)

Inventory:

Spirit Kyatt pouch

Saradomin Brews and Super Restores 3:1 ratio

Current Combat Stats:

Attack: 83 Strength: 80 Defence: 78 Constitution: 83 Magic: 76 Ranged: 75 Summoning: 58 (Will train to 67)

Ah, pity. What if I do get a War Tortoise? Can I reasonably beat Nomad then?

Get better stats. You CAN do it at that level, but it'll be brutally hard. If anything, get your ranged level up, 75 just won't cut it. And prayers only mitigate some damage, so boost defense while you're at it.

Let's put things this way: With 90 Constitution, 83 Ranged, 85 Defense, 72 Prayer, 84 Magic, and the same Summoning level, it took me no less than 3-4 tries, and even then it came down to luck. Learn the pillar trick if you plan on attempting at your current level.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.

Bring some normal restores, use an accumulator over an obsidian cape and use rubies all the way. Also, use a helmet with scrolls, of course. A fury would also be good (you can borrow one) or an armadyl chestplate/ranger's boots or so.

Yes you can, I had similiar stats (75 ranged but bit over 80 def though) I had a tortoise but I ended up with left-over brews so in theory it would be possible. I suggest getting the tortoise however.

Blimey, they weren't kidding when they said this would be a hard boss. Ok, I'll get that Tortoise, and I might have collected some defence levels by the time I get it.

I was going to use the 'pillar trick', although I've always considered it more as what you were supposed to do instead of a 'trick', the ironic cry of 'You cannot hide from my wrath' kinda makes it obvious.

Well, I had similar stats, and ended up with half a tortoise still full, so it should be possible. I didn't hide when he said "you cannot hide from my wrath" either.

Harrumph, on second thought, I'm going to have a few tries at it with a Terrorbird first. It's now, at the time of posting, the last and only thing I need to do before getting a quest cape. The consequences of dying aren't very big, so it won't hurt much in trying now I've got 75 ranging, courtesy of While Guthix Sleeps and some red chinchompas. I'll post my results.

EDIT: On third thoughts, this doesn't look like it's going to be too bad at all. I tried out the 'pillar trick' and my armour, switching the cape for ava's acccumulator, just brought a handful of monkfish, and survived for a decent length of time. I think I'll do it.

Oh god, I see what you mean now. Does nomad just go easy on people who don't actually plan to kill him? In any case, this is going to call for 80 ranging, and that Tortoise. Damn.

My poor budget... icon_e_sad.gif

Anyways, OP's been updated to be a bit more clear, and I'm turning this into a rallying point for Nomad tips for the lower levelled. I don't want to spend ludicrous amounts of money or time on this when I don't have to, but then again I don't want to spend ludicrous amounts of money on inventories of Sara brews and super restores.

One thing that might help if you take lots of damage (might be just me, I could be crazy after all o.O) I prefer to attack for a while, get some damage in, then drink like a brew and a half and 2 super restore doses. Might be just me, but it feels like if I do that, I can actually spend some time damaging or attempting to damage him before I heal.

I can't think of anything in your overall strategy to change; few things like fury if you can get one, if not a god stole; +10 prayer works wonders. Karils isn't a bad choice, a bit better then d-hide, but that brings your repair cost up if you die.

Other then that, maybe get a bunch of accumulators so you don't need to get a new one each time you die. (I have like 27 in my bank now.... once I found a good strategy for him, I beat him my first try. This doesn't include failed attempts where I didn't have a good strategy or times I died testing out armor, etc. I was also bloody surprised you couldn't tele from him, so my first time there went horribly....)

Yeah, this fight can hurt your budget.

Squab unleashes Megiddo! Completed all quests and hard diaries. 75+ Skiller. (At one point.) 2000+ total. 99 Magic.

my difinition of noob is i dont like u, either u are better then me or u are worst them me

Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

Poignant Purple to Lokie's Ravishing Red and Alg's Brilliant Blue.

Try and get karil's. And a fury doesn't hurt either - it might make a better borrow than the godsword; mage def is really important.

And yes, get that tortoise/80 range. You know, jad is pretty good range xp. Just sayin'

I say meh to karil's. Mage defence isn't worth that much. I'd bring some regular restores, so you can brew four times then restore with one dose. It'll allow you to take 1-2 more brews.
