March 20, 201115 yr Very nice. Pull-ups reflect how much of a badass a person is. Just wondering now, what's your technique for the basketball throw? PoetryIndexed Picture 1Indexed Picture 2 Killed my maxed Zerker pure April 2010 Rebooting Runescape

June 13, 201115 yr What were your scores? You should holler at me if you're going to Annapolis, I'm aiming for it myself. Was worried about my CFA earlier, but my BGO told me to wait until my seventeenth birthday to do it (Aug 21). I get two months, and from what I've seen, I already have a pretty average score (except my pushups make me wtf): BBall throw - no clue, I can hit a rabbit with a rock at forty yards. Can you describe it better than the website...?push ups - 20??!?!?!!sit ups - 40shuttle run - Dunno. Should check on that. Could also use a better description here.pullups - 7mile - 7:25? Anyway, good luck to you. I take it you prefer West Point over Annapolis, but... Maybe we'll be in the same class. Wait. Maybe not. Maybe. Um. Yes. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
June 13, 201115 yr I'm guessing you have to do a chest past for the BBall throw? That would seem like a good indication of power.

Anyway, good luck to you. I take it you prefer West Point over Annapolis, but... Maybe we'll be in the same class. Wait. Maybe not. Maybe. Um. Yes.BBall throw: you don't need any strength to do it, you just need coordination. Position your knees about 8-12 inches apart. Lean back with your toes curled as though you were about to stand up. Keep your non-dominant hand near your chin and, while whipping your torso, pivot your non-dominant arm downward to create maximum momentum. As for your throwing hand, if you throw it like a shot-put your will fail - plain and simple. You have to keep your arm straight at all times and wind it back behind your torso. Again, while violently jerking your torso, bring your throwing arm up and release at a 45* angle and 'snap' your wrist. If this is confusing, watch a few soccer goalie's throws. Think of your body as a trebuchet. Push up: just go hard. I practically OD'd on arganine before I took my CFA. Practice makes perfect, and don't start later, start now. Definitely need more than 20 though. Shoot for 60. Sit ups: You'll need a lot more than 40. I maxed out with like 95 or something. Remember that they are modified, with your arm touching your shoulders, you only have to touch your upper thigh. When coming down, let gravity guide you. Pull ups: standard really, no advice I can give you. The bar I had to use was pretty narrow lengthwise. 7 is good, I ended up with 12. Shuttle run: in total, it's 120 feet. Make sure you touch down with a different hand at each pivot point. For example, run 30 feet, pivot with left hand. Run back, right hand, run back, left hand, etc. If you use the same hand each time you'll end up going in an ovular pattern, losing about a foot's pace overall. Mile: My problem was that it was not conducted on a track and I could not pace myself very well. Yes, I prefer USMA over any other academy. Just don't [bleep] around like I did, I blew off two years that I could have spent applying myself. I took up a few classes, but I haven't really done much with my life since. This advice is based on USMA standards. I know that Annapolis is a little different (1.5 mile run I think?). I'm guessing you have to do a chest past for the BBall throw? That would seem like a good indication of power.Nope, this is it: :)
June 20, 201115 yr Good luck! West Point is an amazing school. Campus is pretty neat too, with all the stone. Just know that it's probably going to be the toughest 4 years of your life. I couldn't see myself going there so instead I'm doing Army ROTC in college XD
June 29, 201115 yr Appreciate the advice, I really do. I reckon when the test actually comes I'll slip into a crazy state of mind and go balls-out, but it's good to get as good as I can. Do you know any stretches for the lower back? Mine tends to start hurting toward the 40 sit-up mark nowadays (got 50 pretty easily last time I did any) and it throws me off. I'm not real worried about my CFA, especially since I have to take the Marine PFT even sooner (before the end of July) for NROTC. My mile got to me yesterday, 7:50 even though I felt good. So I'm practicing distance now for the PFT (3 miles under 28 mins, preferably in the 24 range), which should help with my breathing, which is my main problem... I hear running and pull-ups are most important to Annapolis, especially for Marine contracts. I'm running and doing P90X Chest and Back and Arms, along with MMA twice a week (really helpful). Helps that my dad does the P90X with me, he really goes into Marine mode, makes me max out and then do two more. So, lemme know if you get any letters of assurance or anything. I'll keep in mind that you're the one I'm saying Beat Army towards. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
July 1, 201115 yr Author I have everything in except my essays. Got an e-mail earlier saying that my Admissions Officer signed off on my presidential nomination. LOAs are usually for recruited athletes so I hear, but they give out 100 of them so I am keeping my fingers crossed. :) As for stretches, lie down on the floor with your hands & legs outstretched like a 'T'. Bring one leg up - straight or slightly bent, whatever - and slowly rotate it across your body (right leg goes to the left side). It should almost be touching the floor. Twist your torso in the direction opposite of your leg. This always pops my lower back and I feel great afterwards.
July 1, 201115 yr Really? Everyone I've talked to that's had an LOA thinks they got it mostly for academics. Maybe USNA is different, I dunno - hope I'm one of those exceptions, I hate waiting. But awesome with the presidential nom, I just need some recommendation forms done for my Senators. I think my lower back is immune to any stretch. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
