A Time For Glory

Counter-Arguement:

Issue: Use of Future Information for advantage

Resolution: All resources discovered after 1920 are randomised in the local area preventing one man and a drill discovering an important resource cache. All events after 1920 are removed and may be replaced, disgressionarly, by the Moderator based on arguements as to why they should still happen, and other, invented, events could be proposed based on events going on in the world at the time.

Reason 1: Nothing is ever innevitable, Britain surrendering to the Nazis after France fell was 'innevitable' but didn't happen, as an example.

Reason 2: If this is an alternative history then it follows that things would not directly follow real history.

Reason 3: If America was reduced to Alaska in the next 34(5 months) years, then a random event for the Manhatten Project, giving double speed on atomic research, would be ridiculous. Thus nothing should be taken for granted and everything should be asked for, or decreed by the moderator.

Ekofisk on a map.

Counter-Arguement:

Issue: Scandinavian Oil Drilling in the North Sea, specifically Ekofisk, without proper preperation.

Resolution: Scandinavian efforts fail.

Reason 1: The presence of Oil is not a known, it is a prediction, based on the presence of Oil on the shore, which, as we can see on the map, is not near the shore.

Reason 2: The technology to build Oil Platforms at sea, beyond the 'sight of land', did not exist in 1919.*

Reason 3: The North Sea is a large area, an expedition to locate Oil might not actually yield the discovery of Oil.

*You can, if you have excellent eyesight and it is a clear day, see France from Dover. The distance from Ekofisk is greater than the distance from France to Dover by an order of magnitudes. & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_platform#History

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Counter-arguement:

Resolution: One oil platform constructed.

Reason 1: A long period of time and much resources were spent, as such the chance of finding oil is increased.

Reason 2: Ekofisk being only the name of the project, not the exact area to search its distance from the shore is irrelevant.

Reason 3: Even though the technique for floating platform segments was unknown at the time, it is still possible (though horribly inefficiant) to construct it on-site.

Don't worry Rocco, things will inevitably pick-up when Spork comes back on and starts approving research projects, leading to natural conflict. It's just that there's nothing to argue about yet.

my pms have no response spork!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'Tis I, 'tis Vindice, 'tis I!

Not like we can do anything until Spork responds to some actions.

And though numerous deals are being pursued by Germany, these deals are kept off of the table while the planning takes place.

In other, not-so-important news, Christmas.

America and CSA give up their differences for this one joyous occassion :)

Well that was yesterday :P, also Stork doesn't normally sign in for another hour or so, he's quite late when he signs on XD.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

Infrastructure Project:

Project: The Feldburg Lightening Observation Platform and Metrological Office is established, with a remit to locate lightening strikes in the Blackforest.

r20GD.png

Results: Tourism increases, resulting in slightly (+5%) relations with Foreign Powers.

Reason 1: Lightening Strikes are located when they first strike, allowing for fire trucks to be sent to fight forest fires, a major problem in the Black Forest. Meaning less people die...always a bonus.

Reason 2: Storm fronts can be seen at a slightly greater distance, allowing more time to disseminate information, preventing deaths.

Reasons 3: The Feldburg Lightening Observation Platform and Metrological Office (FLOPMO) holds 'Lightening Watches', which are big national events, filled with explosions and what not.

Proposed cost: 500,000£

Proposed time to completion: 3 months.

Infrastructure Project:

Project: Tesla-Beaton Institute of Electrophysics, Copenhagen.

Result: University, slight bonus in electric- and electronic-related reserach

Reason 1: Educational facilities are always important.

Reason 2: With electricity being the center of today's and presumably tomorrow's society, there will always be demand for well educated people to develop new devices.

Reason 3: With Tesla's great importance in electrophysics, this will be the first institute ever made in honour of him. (As thus he is also invited to take place as headmaster of the university.)

Proposed cost: 1 million£

Proposed ETA: 6 months.

Scandanavia funnels huge amounts of money into electrical beam research, infuriating the military. The government is replaced in a coup.

No, I am not making a DEW, I just used Tesla-Beaton because just Tesla would have been too short. For all intents and pourposes you could just say Beaton is the name of the founder.

Check the other threat with A time for glory in the name, it has pretty much all the infromation, plus this one. It makes it very simple to sign up.

You can't take a country already taken, that's really the only rule.

I figured as much. I read through the planning thread, and much of this one.

I'm stuck between Switzerland (Due to the fact they have India from what it seems), and the Netherlands...

If anything, I will likely join tomorrow.

I am pretty sure Britian has India =P

Anyway, if you join as the Netherlands then things will get rather interesting =P

Does anyone know what happened to Spork?

A common symptom to most moderators, but Archi seems to be mostly immune to it. :)
