Slayer gear

So it's been almost a year since I've trained slayer with melee. I completely forgot which gear I should buy. Although I do remember praying on a lot of tasks and wearing Proselyte. I do not have enough money for bandos. I only have 15m cash because most of my money is invested in things. I know the basic stuff to wear like dragon boots, barrows gloves, slayer helm, etc. But I can't remember what top and bottom to wear or what would be the best shield to wear now.

 

Any help is appreciated.

Oops, forgot about the SW and Ardougne 3 Cape.

 

Considering prayer bonus has diminishing returns while strength bonus does not, you are better off with: Soul wars cape, fighters torso, veracs skirt.

Yeah, SW cape, V skirt, and torso works nicely. You could switch out the SW cape for a fire cape if you can spare the inventory space, which shouldn't be a problem on most tasks.

• Barrows gloves (your best rfd gloves, at least rune)
  
• Dragon boots (rune boots)
  
• Amulet of fury (glory)
  
• Dragon defender
  
• Berserker ring (i)/ferocious ring if slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon (berserker ring, warrior ring)
  
• [Most important] Full slayer helmet.
  
• [For magic defence on waterfiends/aquanites] Karil's top and elite void skirt (black dragonhide body and chaps)
  
• [Crush attacks to use on waterfiends] Chaotic maul (Saradomin sword, Zamorakian spear)

Slayer setups generally emphasise strength bonus, which increases the average damage of each succesful hit (slayer monsters usually having rather low defence, hitting is not a problem). Secondly, prayer bonus is important to keep the cost of prayer potions down (as you slay with piety on, to increase the speed of your kills. This is cost-effective and highly recommended). As a rule of thumb, +15 prayer bonus or above is good, but don't overdo it (anything above +25 is a waste). Defence and accuracy bonus are usually not fretted over (any defence bonus over 200 will do; if you get hit too often you should be using a protection prayer). Dagganoth, black demon, lesser demon, hellhound, bloodveld and spectre tasks should be cannoned, as it dramatically increases xp rates (although it costs a bit).

 

Some notes on gear: You'll want a fury and a berserker ring before you get bandos plate, and get that before tassets. You'll want accuracy bonus on higher-levelled dragons; if using stab attacks (which you should) you can use the Ardougne cloak 3 which provides you with +6 stab and +6 prayer bonus. Torso + sw cape and fire cape + proselyte are common cheap top/cape combinations; the former is better.

 

Some levels to get for slayer (in approximate order but I'm not sure on the summoning):

• 68 summoning - bunyip
  
• 81 dungeoneering (you need 2 million xp, which takes you to level 80, but allowing some tokens for the scroll of life) - rapier
  
• 89 herblore (85 with a +4 stew boost) - extreme potions, superantifires
  
• 95 prayer - turmoil and soul split
  
• 88 summoning - unicorn
  
• 96 herblore (91 with a +5 stew boost) - overload
  
• 99 summoning - steel titan

Why thank you. Very informative. I have the basic slayer gear(basically meaning not bandos or a fury) and eventually I'll have enough charms for 96 summoning. My first goal is 99 prayer, it's just a personal goal, so until that is finished I won't be cannoning or buying herblore levels.

 

Also is kurasi's sword really better than z spear? I know combined with d defender it has slightly higher stats but I didn't find it nearly as accurate.

Korasi's sword has better stats, but if you find the Z Spear to be working better or you like using it more, its up to you. The stats are almost identical so its really just personal preference.

Buy a set of proselyte for tasks where you use overheads and use your sw cape then/when your cannon is doing most of the damage. All other times it's cool to use torso/verac's skirt (the combination has a better slash defence bonus than bandos and stab/crush bonuses are comparable). As for 'shield' use dragon defender for all tasks and antifire shield if you dont have superantifire potions.

Korasi's + dragon defender has one more strength than the spear and 2 less prayer, and it can train strength/attack, which means you can use agressive (= marginally higher dps).
