Confusion over Grarr and 'Magical ranged'

Basically, runewiki states grarrs attacks are Melee and a Magical Ranged attack

So, if I'm tanking and praying melee as you do, is it best for me to be maxing my mage defence (since the other attack is mage based range) or is it best to still go with ranged def?

*supposedly* full karils works very well, but that could just be someones false data from one kill or so.

Bladewing is right. As your ranged defence increases, the amount of damage done by the mage mini starts increasing relative to the damage done by Graardor and the ranged mini, to the point it's worth lowering ranged defence for magic defence (high magic levels are also recommended for the same reason).

What my question is (I'll add that on here) is whether bandos + spectral beats tassets, karil's top and dfs.

A good thing to do is to check place other than Runeqiki when gathering information.

It is ranged based, but the magic minion can do a fair amount of damage as it attacks constantly unlike his ranged attack. I found it best to mix karil's top with tassets to counter both.

If going karils I would really recommend black dhide: only 1 less magic defense, but 10ish more range defense.... As well as a possible item to protect from zamorak!

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Blarg. I have no idea why the Runewiki still says that. It's completely false. They're getting it confused with the fact that the attack isn't an arrow or a bolt, but a seemingly magical energy. But protect from range is what blocks out it's damage. That's why they're miss-labeling it. I think...

Example of a true type of attack that is based on one type, but attacks with a different type:

Bloodvelds.

Their attack is magic based, but they have to be in melee range to use it. Hence the name: Magic based melee attack. So, protect from melee(Not protect from mage) will block out all damage, but dhides/karils is the advised armor choice.

Though granted it is hard to document mage-based range attacks, or range-based mage attacks since they can all be cast/fired from a distance. It's still not worth documenting it as a "magical range" as everyone is getting confused.
