FederalXTC
Where are the gods in RuneScape? NPCs mention them all the time. You find their equipment, and slay their followers in the God Wars Dungeon. However, that's all that seems to happen. Your everyday life in RuneScape has nothing more to do with these gods. I would like to see the gods play a larger role in your everyday RuneScape life. Without further ado, let me introduce my ideas. [spoiler=#1. Different Prayer Books'']It doesn't make sense that no matter what god one follows, they all share the same prayers! Players should be able to choose a god, and be able to worship only that one god. This would allow players stronger prayers of a certain type, while having much weaker versions of others. SaradominBeing the god of good, Saradomin's followers gain a boon to their defensive and healing abilities. A list of prayers would include: Protect from [Melee, Range, Mage, Summoning] - Completely blocks said attack style. Boosts your melee defense, range defense, and magic defense by 1/5 of the damage blocked. Glory of Saradomin - Protects two additional items when you die. Shield of Light - Increases your defense to melee, ranged, and magic attacks by 20%. Divine Intervention - Heals you for 33% of the damage you receive instantly. Light of Dawn - Instills you with the light of dawn, increasing the rate at which you regenerate health by 5x, and increasing the health generated by 5x.Keep in mind these values aren't set in stone, and there may be weaker/stronger versions of each to spread them throughout the levels. GuthixBeing the god of balance and nature, Guthix's followers get an array of moderately strong prayers. A list of prayers would include: Protect from [Melee, Range, Mage, Summoning] - Completely blocks said attack style, and boosts your attack, strength, defense, range, magic, and your defenses [melee, ranged, magic] by 1/10 of the damage caused. Guthix's Veil - Protects one item when you die. Boon of Guthix - Increases your attack, strength, defense, ranged, and magic by 10%, and your defenses [melee, ranged, magic] by 10%. Divine Intervention - Upon taking a hit equal to or greater than 33% of your max health, you are healed for the same amount over 30 seconds, and gain 5% more attack, ranged, and magic. [more accurate attacks]Keep in mind that these values aren't set in stone, and there may be weaker/stronger versions of each spread throughout the levels. ZamorakAs he is the god of chaos and destruction, Zamorak's followers gain prayers to boost their offensive capabilities. A list of prayers would include: Enrage - Boosts your melee, ranged, and magic damage by 25% of all damage that you take. Blight - Saps your opponent's combat stats and run energy, transferring them to you. Unholy Essence - Continuously drains the user's health to increase all damage done by 50. Vendetta - Upon dying, you do 500% of your max prayer as damage. Divine Intervention - When your health drops below 10%, you do 50% more damage for 6 seconds. Prayer must be active beforehand. ArmadylArmadyl is the god of order and justice. As such, Armadyl hates combat. His followers do not gain any combat benefits through him. A list of prayers would include: Armadyl's Watch - Teleports you to the nearest altar when your health drops below 10%. Order's Boon - Increases your woodcutting, fishing, and mining levels by 5%. Tireless Justice - You do not use any energy to run while this prayer is active. Haste - You now create items instantly, and mine, fish, or chop 50% faster. Teleportation - Any teleportation spell used while this prayer is active will bring up a menu allowing teleports to several skill-related places. Divine Intervention - You have a 33% chance to gather an extra log, ore, or fish while this prayer is active. I have more ideas which will be added soon, as well as prayers for Bandos and Zaros. Utopia
Cool ideas, but I think they prayers may be a little too strong for their ease of obtaining.
Krampell
Should be in suggestions though.
Omali
They've managed to avoid that by placing a ban on direct intervention in the lore. Remember, if the gods directly intervene, Guthix will throw a full [cabbage]-fit and destroy the world.
amitoz
Those prayers are poorly thought out tbh.. too overpowered because the quest is so easy. Come to my Clan chat (I'm there if I'm online) if you wish to borrow a Green H'ween mask, Blue H'ween Mask, Red H'ween Mask, or Santa for a reasonable price. FederalXTC
These are just some general ideas; numbers can and will be tweaked. I'm just throwing some ideas out here. Most likely the ones I listed would have high prayer requirements. The way I am seeing this prayer system is once one reaches 50 prayer, he/she can complete a quest to devote themselves to a god. After this, the new prayer menu would be able to be accessed.
Hameigh
I would really hate to have to devote my character to only one god. I like that in RS you can mostly do everything without being fit into classes or other limitations on what your character can do without needing multiple characters. Quyneax
You can make a thread in suggestions to discuss the actual prayer books ;-). As for devoting yourself to a god... that'd be very difficult to implement. As it stands, Gielinor's gods are powerful individuals who have large-scale plans & give people power to carry them out. So for a person to be meaningfully devoted to a god, you'd need to make those plans real. E.g. if 90% of the players supported Zamorak, you'd want to see Zamorak temples all over the place or it'd be useless. Right now there's big stuff going on with Guthix and Zaros and Mahjarrat. It'd be stupid to see that storyline go on if lots of people were anti-Zaros. Then again it'd be stupid if you could only choose between Zaros and Guthix or something. Game mechanics-wise, I'm devoted to Zaros as I use curses, always. So I think, not going to happen. Quyneax
Thing is that the normal prayer set is not oriented towards any one god. All gods grant their followers powers. A Zamorakian would use piety just as a Saradominist would. Both smite their opponents. So making the regular prayers 'Saradominist' doesn't make sense imo, at all. Curses are an entirely different style of worship. Instead of focusing on followers as actors being buffed by their god, the god directly influences non-believers (we'll assume people with curses use them on enemies). So instead of doing something with the aid of your god, you're acting as a conduit for Zaros' negative power. Or something (ofc turmoil messes that up but ok). You could see that as a manifestation of the Edicts of Guthix. Saradomin and Zamorak do not directly influence the world unless invited to by followers, out of their free will. Zaros also affects others. Quyneax
Piety is strong belief in a god, and servitude I suppose. All gods have that. I wasn't saying that it isn't the case that Saradomin handles prayers (of players anyway), but that it doesn't make sense. However to actually make it so that you could choose would make little difference.
