Tnt6200
I just got 68 summoning and I was wondering which tasks I will need food on. I have 81 def and my gear is: -Slayer helm-Fury-Torag's plate-Torag's legs-D boots-Barrows gloves-Zerker (i)-Rapier-D defender-Obsidian cape (I know...but I don't really have enough time to try for a fire cape)
Th e Doctor
*[roosters] his head to the side* not enough time for a fire cape but you have a berserker ring (i)? Who am I to judge... :) It would help if we knew what slayer master you're using. :) edit Lol at the censor changing the word for tilts to roosters :D Also generally if you need food on a task on top of bunyip you're better off praying for that task. Armadyl Drops : 4 Hilts; 3 Chestplates; 2 Chainskirts; 1 Helmet; 1 Buckler; 2 Shard 1; 2 Shard 2; 1 Shard 3Nex : 1 Zaryte BowKalphite King : 1 Drygore Rapier ; 1 Drygore Longsword : 1 Drygore Offhand Rapier : 1 Drygore Offhand Longsword
Hedgehog
I usually only need food on hellhound tasks, but I have those blocked now. You're still gonna want to pray melee vs black demons and metals. Bring a couple monks to every task, just in case.
Bladewing
only task you should use food on is probably wyverns, scabarite minions, waterfiends (if you don't pray) @above: you should pray melee on hellhounds for cape you could buy a god cloak until you get around to fire cape/nomad/ardougne diaries How to Chin Nechyraels for fast XP and profit
Tnt6200
I'm using Duradel, 72 slayer atm so I will be able to use Kuradal soon. I was thinking of getting an Ardy cloak this weekend. And I got my zerker(i) by suiciding while doing hw.I never used to pray melee for hellhounds because I used the wildy volcano before update. But I guess I will now. Hedgehog
They don't hit enough to warrant praying. You eat once every 10 kills or so.
Bladewing
if you have to eat, and aren't praying protect prayers, then you should be in my opinion protect prayers cost what, like 50k an hour to use? i'd pay 50k an hour to get a 4% increase in kill speed How to Chin Nechyraels for fast XP and profit

Hedgehog
If I pray melee I have difficulty flashing piety. And i think piety>prot melee.
Th e Doctor
@Sir I believe he refers to the loss of hits from losing an attack turn while eating? @hedgehog (my apologies if this is stupid) but how does having prot melee on effect your ability to flash piety at all? It doesn't change the ticks for attacking/defending...or does it?! *cue epic look gopher music* Armadyl Drops : 4 Hilts; 3 Chestplates; 2 Chainskirts; 1 Helmet; 1 Buckler; 2 Shard 1; 2 Shard 2; 1 Shard 3Nex : 1 Zaryte BowKalphite King : 1 Drygore Rapier ; 1 Drygore Longsword : 1 Drygore Offhand Rapier : 1 Drygore Offhand Longsword
Hedgehog
I use the quick prayer thing, so when i turn piety off, melee gets turned off too. I can't flash using the prayer menu for whatever reason. And you can eat without wasting time. You just have to time it correctly.
SirIzenhime
if eating a fish lowers kill speed by 4%....then you're...eating...wrong?... If that's really an issue, these work great...http://services.runescape.com/m=itemdb_rs/Tangled_toads'_legs/viewitem.ws?obj=2187 , as well as other related gnome foods. Eating them does not take up combat turns (if you eat it right when you hit at least, they're kind of like brews where you can't do anything for a second or two when you eat it) and with them going down so much, they're decent gp/lp. There's also the enhanced excalibur, but it depends on what spec weapon (and how/where you're killing the monster in question) you would otherwise use over the EE to tell if it's worth using. Th e Doctor
Hmmm then im at a loss... At duradel the only tasks I can think of where you'll need food is waterfiends, but most of those food drops will be done with raw fish drops and swallow whole scrolls your bunyip let's you use. I always have a few sharks handy though just in case. NastyJenny
Not a bad idea allways carrying a few monks/sharks just in case, monsters may get lucky too...
zotto
Just go through all the tasks and experience where you need food or not. It's the best way, because slayer experience can be quite personal. Because most people that give advice tend to be maxed out. Comes with 99 slayer. Eating can be a deliberate tactic to cheapen a task. Do you want to do that? And if you are using a bunyip you can ALWAYS SEMI-TANK! let your familiar heal you. If it doesn't heal enough (you are getting several unlucky hits on you in a short timespan). Slap on protection prayer. Let the bunyip heal you under protection prayer. Take off protection prayer and continue slaying. Where you definitely need food one way or the other is waterfiends (swallow whole scrolls). Bank is close by though (fairy ring). Many tasks that would need food can also be ranged or cannoned. It's what you want yourself and how much money you want to spend on doing task. I personally found finding out this stuff and experimenting the most appealing aspect of getting 99 slayer.
Quyneax
In that gear, you will need to eat on wyverns and scarabites (waterfiends, too, but in other gear of course). However if you cannon scarabites, you're in for a treat, they are quite brutal (probably the most dangerous slayer task besides mauling wyverns and DKS/KQ). @Hedgehog: you could also not flash piety and let the +25% defence do its job ;). Troll Bomber
Honestly it all kind of depends on what tasks you do or do not block. Your setup, minus rapier (just got mine at 133 cb/95 slayer lol) is just about the same I used when I was your level. Tbh most slayer monsters don't pose much of a threat, so your torag's is easily more than enough to defend you most of the time. Before I unlocked uni's, I took a bunyip on every task regardless, unless I was going to pray (Black demons, ect.). You may want to keep a small stash of monks or w/e in your bank and take a few to each task for the occasional time your task has an extra grudge against you, but other than that, Bunyip + a few food on every task will most likely be your safest bet until you manage to get your defence level/equipment up. (Slightly off topic, but it you find that you're not taking any damage and your bunyip is being "inefficient", you could always try wearing proselyte plate and legs and try out some piety/super set. If your bunyip heals you enough still to where you're not really at risk of dying, it could be beneficial in terms of faster charms/hr (88 summ faster :D), and faster xp of course. This all goes to say that you don't mind using ppots on tasks. I switched from your current slayer method to this method around 90 slayer or so.) Regardless of what you choose, I thinik you'll find the bunyip is a rather handy familiar, and at only a couple thousand geepees per task, pays for itself in the end. You'll adapt into different methods the more you slay, so good luck to whatever you choose. ;)
