An addition to skillcapes.

I just had a conversation with my dad about ways to improve the achievement of getting lvl 99 in a particular skill. Shortly into the conversation, I got excited, because it's something I've always wanted, but knew would never happen... because as far as I know, I'm the first one to think of it.

Here's the idea: an untradeable item that you can buy when you hit level 99 in a skill, that will help with the skill if you wish to train it further, OR just something useful all around. This needs a lot of refinement, and the idea is in the development stage... which is why I'm here. I need ideas. I have a few, but I want at least one item idea for each skill before I bother to post on the RSOF.

A few examples, so everybody is on the same page:

1. A two handed woodcutting axe. Why isn't there one already...? Wilfred is walking around with his... where did he get it? It would just be nice to be able to chop magic logs faster than somebody nine levels below me, or to chop willows faster than somebody 30 levels below me. It's frustrating.

2. A portable stove. Wait... what? Firemaking is useless. The only reason people actually train it (if they ever actually do) is for another 99, or to get the adze at level 92. But a portable stove, with, say, the lack of burning benefit from the range in the Lumbridge kitchen (or greater) would at least make it a little more useful. You'd have to add logs to it, and light them, then set it down and COOK on it... (all credit for this one goes to my dad)

See where I'm going with this? ANY ideas or criticism you guys have would help out a toooon (and any great contributions will be posted here with due credit). Also, thank you to everyone who actually read this.

I'd actually love to see them for a bunch of other skills, namely:

Hitpoints: maybe have something built into the cape, that restores hp at the same rate as a bunyip

Slayer: wearing the cape allows you to fight slayer monsters without the special equipment

Runecrafting: all runes you craft have a chance of becoming 'specialty runes'. These runes give you double xp when used for spells, and are untradable.

Construction cape could give, when operated, all tools for construction (nails sold separately). It could also give a little boost that reduces the cost of repairing Barrows armor (by just a little bit, so its not completely and advantage) at the armor... thing... (sorry, haven't been a member for some time. Forgot what the repairing bench is called)

Thieving cape - increase chances of successfully pickpocketing from an NPC.

Your DAD? Impossible!

Well, I like the general idea. Not sure about the axe, maybe they should just rework how woodcutting levels affect the speed of actually woodcutting. As for the portable stove, I think firemaking itself should also be tweaked a bit, adding more convenient methods of making fires.

Getting 99 in a skill should really be more of a big deal than it is now. For most skills, people get it for a pretty cape. Woodcutting, fletching, cooking, firemaking, runecrafting, smithing, mining, etc. really don't have much of a reason to get 99 besides showing off.

Agility Cape - You run 10% faster

Magic 99 - Get a rune-ring, like a keyring, stores runes so they only take up one inventory spot

'Rock Hard' boss pure - 60/60 Attack | 99/99 Range | 1/1 Defence | 44/44 Prayer | 99/99 Strength | 99/99 Mage - level 79 combat EOC

Agility idea is brilliant. Lost me on the magic one, though. Don't the blastboxes already do that...?

Love it. (although, there is already a looot of lp regen stuff out there...)

...a hammer and a saw...?

..maybe they should just rework..

Missed the point entirely.

Thanks to all who actually responded. I'll update the original post later... because I'm reeeeally lazy. (acknowledgment is the first step...)

blast boxes are only good for blast and bolt spells though, and must be equipped... a keyring style rune holder would let a mage actually make use of their spellbook without sacrificing 50% inventory space...

I think some of these ideas are really good, but some of them would benefit the skill as a whole much more if they were implemented to earlier levels than 99. For example: the portable cooking stove. I think it would be great if portable cooking apparatuses would be unlocked throughout the entire firemaking skill. As it is now, it's kind of a useless skill, adding a useful feature at level 99 seems silly. It's like if you have to train your ranged level to 99 before you could use any ranged weapons.

This is a bit off topic, but I'd like to see skill armour. Instead of a 120 cape (or in addition to), you should be given a choice of mage, ranger, or melee skill armour. And to prevent abuse from 1 defence pures, but not make it completely useless in combat, the armour should have bonuses based on your defence level at the time of purchase. I don't know how hard it would be to code progressively upgrading armour based on a stat, but it would be nice if it did that. The armour would be in the cape's base color, trimming it with the trim color if you have multiple skillcapes. The sets would be body, helm, and legs, and would provide enhanced "bonuses" that we are discussing now. Like, for the agility suggestion, maybe you could run 20% or 15% faster. Cooking, you will never burn food. Farm, disease chance lowered by 80%. Idk, just some ideas.

Also, the body would have the skill symbol on it. If I was any good with photoshop and such (or if i had it) I would design some prototypes, but I don't so...yeah.

I like this idea. The time commitment and patience necessary to achieve 99 in any skill should be justly rewarded, and it isn't now in my opinion. Sure, a cape is nice, but something more than that might inspire some folks to really go all-out for that 99. I like your idea, but the specifics escape for the moment. Definitely going to follow this topic and see what ideas get thrown around.

Ideally, I think the reward should be something untradeable and useful on a personal level only, hopefully something that wouldn't throw the economy off-balance at all, but that may be easier said than done.

I like the idea, but it should not benefit any of the combat stats. Seriously, lets make someone with 99 Strength and Defence even more powerful...

First: Your dad? Inconceivable!

Anyhow, I like this.

Ideas for lv-99 rewards:

Agility-Achievement cape has more negative weight than the hunter capes

Prayer-Achievement cape gives higher prayer bonus

Ranged-Accumulator can be upgraded (again) to give a higher ranged attack bonus and a new look

Hunter-General camoflage top and legs, gives same camoflage bonus as a complete larupia/kyatt/graahk, in any Hunter region
