How do skill sttats/levels work?

Just a quick question here. How do levels compare when skilling? For example, I've got level 88 mining, while I always out mine someone with level 72 mining? Or does it mean most of the time I'll out mine them?

thx

people don't know for sure, but this theory is generally accepted:

RS has an time interval for each mining level (different for each type of ore too), from 0 to X seconds. The higher your mining level, the smaller the X.

So for iron it could be:

0 - 1 seconds ( level 99)

0 - 4 seconds (level 40)

RS randomizes a number in your interval each time you try to mine a rock, and that is the time it takes to mine that rock. So the higher your mining level, it is more likely you'll out mine them, but sometimes you may get unlucky and not get the ore before someone else with a lower mining level does.

For mining, it's a chance per hit to get an ore. For lower ores this is close to 100%, for higher ores it's much more dependant on your pickaxe and levels, but even so you can't entirely outmine someone.

For woodcutting, it's a chance per hit to drop the tree, so more people at a tree will drop it faster.

For fishing, it's a chance per 5 ticks to get a fish.

Whenever you click on a rock, a die is rolled. The value of the die determines whether you get the ore, don't get the ore, get a gem, etc. Your mining level increases the amount of sides that give you the ore.
