Cheat
So basically I want 70 smithing for 'The Void Stares Back' and I don't know how to go about it. My impression was that smithing is very expensive and to be honest I'd rather train prayer with my money. However I heard some kid going on about how you can get 99 smithing for 10m (TROLL?). Anyway whats the best method to level up smithing from 55 (that won't break my bank)? Quyneax
You can probably get it and make money, cannonballs for example, it'll just be very slow and painful and inefficient. If you need magic xp superheat or if you don't need magic xp superheat-smelt gold. Hegelstad
Superheating while smelting gold as Quyneax already mentioned is a good way to go about it. Costs about 3-4gp/exp ;) My lame drops:6 Effigys1 D Med - 1 D Dagger1 Verac's Helmet - 1 Guthan's Platebody
shasta_sms
What I did for 99 smithing was smelt gold ores with the gold gauntlets. It is moderate exp for a fairly low cost.

Godeye
Addy plates require you to have 88 Smithing so you won't be able to train it that way.I recommend you goldsmithing with gold gauntlets, its moderate exp and it doesn't cost alot. :)

Makes a nice little bit of money and you can just kill a lot of time quickly with it as it's ~5mins per invo. You're much better off working with gold and making up the minimal cost doing something else

BloodAngel
Superheating gold is pretty much the best way to go until level 88. With Gold Smithing gauntlets it's around 140k Smith xp, 132k Magic xp/hr and fairly cheap. I would suggest doing it at the Soul Wars bank since you don't get any randoms there and it's a 1-click bank. "Unfortunately, the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale."
