Why the sudden increase in essence prices?

Featured Replies

I've been wanting to get my runecrafting but I'm discouraged at how much essence costs at the moment.

I'm well aware that the Aubury/Larryr cape switch mucked up the essence bots for a week or so but I've visited the mines since then and the bots seem to be operational once again.

If you look at the price graph, you can see where the essence rose because of bot malfunction, plateaued as the bots came back and then suddenly started rising again.

What gives?

Increase in runecrafting bots probably.

Actually the opposite: the whole "rc + ess" bot market stopped, as the major bot owners won't update untill the prices are 200/150 gp+ again.

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I thought it was due to the livid farm update, which uses a lot of runes, there for causing greater need for runes and ess. On top of that the rune bots are not getting updated until ess is more profitable.

Hehe, I was just joking.

Who really knows? Could be Livid farm. Or maybe people want to RC more.

As far as I know, the Livid Farm isn't very significant in terms of the total runes used in all of RS. Jagex recently changed the ess mines around and also Aubrey's item ID so all of the bots are outdated. Apearantly out of spite for players over using ess bots and crashing the price hard, the bot makers are refusing to update the ess prices until they go up. I think that ess prices got high enough for some bot makers to update the bot, but on the whole, I don't think enough bots are updated to make the prices crash.

Also, a lot of people invested in ess when they heard bots were broken, so I'm sure there's plenty sitting in people's bank until they think it's time to sell.

Not to veer off topic because it does tie in to what was posted above. It seems that in ways we need bots, but I am willing to live with higher RC costs. Seriously, the bots threatening the Runescape Community. Really?

In all reality we know they will be back.

My advice, don't buy any esscence in the next few days.

It's definitely not the result of Livid Farm.

If that were true - the price of runes would be shooting straight but nothing has been increasing nearly as much as pure essences.

My belief is that:

-in some part, its the breaking of the bots

-in other part, i believe some people (it's not a bad idea) to go hoard some rune essences while the price is going up. The trick is just to sell before they start crashing.

^For those of you who are always looking for things to merch - stock up as much as possible before the botters get back on track and start sending 100's of miners there.
