The_Gabe
Many times I've seen people ask others on forums for help on homework in off topic forum, but wouldn't it be more practical to make a forum just dedicated to that? It'd be basically a help and advice forum, just for homework. Three months banishment to 9gag is something i would never wish upon anybody, not even my worst enemy. Zaaps1
It begs the question though, "why Tip.It?" There are so many better places. I'm not calling anyone on TIF stupid, but you have your teacher, your classmates, and many sites whose sole purpose is to answer questions that would go on the homework forum. It just seems to me that you would get more helpful responses there. ~It's Super Effective! PoorLepRecon
The problem with a homework forum is that people be trying to avoid doing work, rather than asking legitimate questions that they are stuck on. They'll just post a question such as A+B/C =? and expect someone to just give them the answer. The_Gabe
The problem with a homework forum is that people be trying to avoid doing work, rather than asking legitimate questions that they are stuck on. They'll just post a question such as A+B/C =? and expect someone to just give them the answer. Except for the fact that I think people would be smarter than do answer all questions from the same category. Like if someone asks how to do a problem, it shouldn't be a problem if he's given the answer for that particular one so he can use it to do others. Also, many people just use tif, and have built a community here. So it's really just that type of thing. There's help for other irl stuff, why not this? das1330
i support this concept. While TIF may not be the best place for such threads, people do use it for that purpose and between leaving people with no help or too much help, going overboard a bit is the best practical option. jimmy_jim
I don't think the section would have much activity, and we can't always be sure people answering the questions are going to be correct. You could always ask for homework help in this thread. Or if it's not something too silly and could generate some nice discussion you can always create a new thread in off-topic. I wouldn't want to see people here doing homework for other people, but rather guiding them in the right direction! Ouchy
If a homework forum was made, all I could see from it would be a lot of lmtgfy.com popping up. obfuscator
No, definitely against this. We don't need to be helping people with their homework. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
Ginger_Warrior
But then, what's the difference between homework and every other piece of help offered on Tip.It? Isn't learning from the experience meant to be a key factor in both homework and real life? I'm not saying we should go around writing essays for people, but if someone's stuck with a simple question, is coming on here really any different from asking a friend? That said, I'm not sure if such a situation warrants its own board. The RLH&A thread would be okay. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
obfuscator
Well, that's the thing. Without a board, people will post little questions, on occasion. With a board, it would get out of hand pretty quickly or not be used at all. The Observer
It begs the question though, "why Tip.It?" There are so many better places. I'm not calling anyone on TIF stupid, but you have your teacher, your classmates, and many sites whose sole purpose is to answer questions that would go on the homework forum. It just seems to me that you would get more helpful responses there. Usually those who have learned the material have learned it in a way in which made it easier to grasp the concept easier. This is often a lot more helpful than websites. That's why you often see peer tutors appear in education systems from late elementary to even post secondary. I like the concept, but it might just make people lazy. They post a massive topic with their homework questions and expect people to do it for them. tripsis
I don't want to encourage people to just seek answers for their homework assignments. Right now people are welcome to create threads in Off-Topic or related forums (Programming forum for coding homework, Art Gallery for art homework) as long as they don't just ask for answers. I honestly haven't seen enough of those threads to really merit its own forum. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
jasignhagj
If you just need help with a quick problem, posting it in the today thread would likely get the fastest response.
