Maging Iron Dragon

Featured Replies

I'm taking a breather from DG. Just got 93 iron dragons from Kuradal. So, since I can do them in the dungeon, I thought of maging them after work tonight. Wanted to try out offensive maging with all this new stuff coming out since I came back. Appreciate advice on my setup and other stuff.

Equipment: hexcrest, fury, ardy cape 3, ahrim top & bottom, barrow glove, infinity boots, fero ring, DFS & mystic lava staff.

Spell: Fire wave

Some noobie questions:

1) Is it worth for me to get Staff of Light and arcane stream necklace? Does the damage increases stack with hexcrest?

2) Is there a magic max hit calculator? I only found for melee and ranged.

2) Also, should I use fire surge or claw of guthix, instead of just fire wave? As I recall, higher lvl magic splashed more often than lower lvl spells. Or maybe I remembered wrongly.

3) Does fero ring dmg increase effect spell dmg as well?

4) Should I just scrap the idea and melee them with a whip? I dont have any great 1h stab weapons yet (no korasi either).

Thanks for advices.

1. Yes

2. Just multiply normal max hit by bonuses

3. Fire surge is the best spell

4. Yes

5. Melee is faster, not gonna lie

1) Yes, SoL is worth it. If I remember correctly, the Boosts from Magic Stack Separately and in order of (Weapon% * Potion% * Slayer%). Not having a SoL and/or arcane steam will knock your max hit down drastically. The cost saved from blood runes using a SoL should equal the cost of fire runes consumed, or close to it.

2) Not really, since Magic is based on solid percents that don't change. Just multiply in order of (Base hit * Weapon% * Potion% * Slayer%).

Example: SoL + Hex + No Potion + Arcane Stream + Fire Surge = (280 * 30% = 364 * 0% = 364 * 15%) = 418.

3) Yup, inside her dungeon.

4) Mage works fine, and is relatively fast, but it's usually not very cost effective. You can break even/profit if you use a Yak(or bank) with the Dragon Bones, but typically its just as fast to melee with with a Stab Weapon.

If you enjoy magic, I'd go for mage, but if your doing it just for killing them, melee is going to be the better option, as it's about the same speed but a heck of alot cheaper.

PS. Leaf Bladed sword is a good option for a 1H stab weapon.

Thanks for the advices. Guess I'll just whip em in pray gear. I'll bring along the leaf sword for testing. :D

I ice barrage them on occasion because I like maging

I'm just a magic obsessed nub. Definitely gotta barrage them again when I get a chaotic staff lol. But, in terms of slayer exp, it's generally more efficient to melee them. Frankly, mage isn't as weak as you think, judging by your stats it might even be faster* for you TO mage them.

But, magic is much more expensive then melee. The DPS can be comparable to melee (although probably not with maxed melee, extremes, turmoil, chaotics, etc) but the main issue with mage in PVM is cost.

Imo, I think you should try out mage because it's actually kinda fun** pwning stuff with mage.

*Maybe. Don't tar and feather me if I'm wrong anyone.

**According to me. This is just my own personal, biased opinion.

Squab unleashes Megiddo! Completed all quests and hard diaries. 75+ Skiller. (At one point.) 2000+ total. 99 Magic.
[spoiler=The rest of my sig. You know you wanna see it.]

my difinition of noob is i dont like u, either u are better then me or u are worst them me

Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

Poignant Purple to Lokie's Ravishing Red and Alg's Brilliant Blue.

Brackish blade is cheap and better then a whip.

It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet.

That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.

1) Yes

2) http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Calculators/Max_hit_magic The best one.

3) Surge

4) Yes

5) Depends what you're hitting. Try it out, although more expensive, it usually goes faster (especially with your 45% damage bonus).

I took the liberty of doing your max hit given this situation for you, it is 476.

Wat?! I never thought magic could hit that high. Thats higher than what I've hit with whip.

Magic is far more gear dependent then melee now.

All magic boosts stack multiplicatively, that is, even arcane stream and sol do even though the equipment menu says 30% total.

It is worth getting sol + arcstream and once you got those but no rapier I think mage would be as fast as melee, trouble is you don't have a good magic level boost. You might consider Vecna's skull or two (does having two work?) or maybe some regular magic pots along with a skull.

Well, I've already finished killing the dragons. Whipped em all into submission. Seems whip is better than leaf sword tho.

LatinII: OMG!! What kind of hax equipment/spell/boost were u wearing/using?!?

Quyneax: I was thinking of saving my tokens to get crapier first before splurging anymore of it. Already used 30k for the scrolls and now left ~50k. I'd probably get ASN right after that if there's nothing more important after crapier. I totally forgot about vecna, so guess I'll include that.
