Flodder450
Lately,i had an idea for a thread in my head about Architecture i really like Gothic Architecture the most, because of the epicness of some Cathedrals, like the Notre dame de Paris, the Salisbury Cathedral,Lincoln Cathedral And the reason i like the Gothic style are the elements of it,like the HUGE stained glass windows, the flying buttresses, the pointed arches, and just how the hell they could build it back then in the Middle Ages (though some cathedrals werent finished untill the 19th centurie,Cologne Cathedral is a good example of this, construction started in 1248 and it wasnt completely finished untill 1880 (!)) Share your preferances, post pictures of architecture you find to be epic, and lets just have a good discussion! 99 Firemaking 30-5-2010 | 99 Fletching 13-7-2014 TET-AU member:6-10-2010 - 21-10-2011
jimmy_jim
I'm a huge fan of the early Renaissance architecture, mainly in England during Queen Elizabeth I's reign. An example of this is Burghley House which I visited to watch some Horse thing there many years ago with my family while on holiday. I also love Edwardian architecture, but in general, I just like anything that's well designed :P RIP Michaelangelopolousu can control my tip it account, but youll never control how fine i am!This is by FAR my favorite song: I love N_odie and would never edit his posts! Shiny
Art Deco is my favourite, and every time I go down to Napier (the supposed Art Deco capital of the world) I love looking at the architecture. Thumbs up to Gaudi, though, some brilliant work there. Not particularly beautiful but HOLY [cabbage] LOOK AT THOSE DETAILS:
Jeffwilson99
La Sagrada Familia? It's such an immense project it's still being finished. I really like Gothic Castles. I want to do a tour of the Rhine or something and go look at all the castles. I used to be fascinated by them when I was a kid...actually I still am. The Observer
I actually like certain forms of modern architecture. It's probably because I used to make surpringly marvellous creations using Lego as a kid. :P I mean you have to admit, this does look pretty cool:

Napalm
Future architect here. I absolutely adore gothic architecture. It is truly one of the biggest displays of magnificence in my opinion. I also like some modern architecture. Stuff like the Villa Tugendhat come to mind. Also, Fallingwater.
Danqazmlp
Well this is convenient. My current area of research for my undergraduate dissertation is the campaign to save this building: In architecture, there is an unwritten 30 year rule where buildings under that age are often thought of as ugly and eye soars. After that, they begin to be established as unique and much more liekly to survive. That first 30 years is the critical time for a building. The above was opened in 1974. The argument to destroy it started around 2003 and is scheduled to be demolished within the next two years. BUT, if it was saved for another 5,10 or 20 years, would we grow to love it? That is one of the largest points of conflict in the modern heritage movement. I am writing with the perspective that it should have been listed, causing it to be saved. The reason for this is that it is a unique style and great example of the brutalist architectural style. It is a style no longer used, and widely demolished in the current climate. I am not a fan of all brutalist buildings, many are ugly with no style, just plain straight concrete, but the above in my opinion is more than that. I can't say I like one style over another, it all depends on the scale and style of the building. Want to be my friend? TrueBeaver
This cathedral (the Marktkirche) was downtown in the city I used to live in and across the street from my favorite bar, it was always kind of surreal looking at it. But I know little to nothing about architecture so can't really contribute much substance to this thread. Danqazmlp
curious, what is this building called? It's the Birmingham Central Library. It's a fascinating building imo. The building they are replacing it with is costing upwards of £200m to build. The original plan for the original was to have a white marble façade but was cut from the final design. If that had been added, it could look much nicer, and even plans to do so today would cost less than the new building. Want to be my friend? dsavi
The Milwaukee Art Museum is pretty awesome: I'm a big fan of the geometric, faceted, glass and metal style that is Finnish architecture. My signature has a hint of that in it. The new music hall in Helsinki really epitomizes this, but it's so new that there are few pictures of it from the inside. It was interesting to see them all. I would post a link, but their site is down atm. "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
