Manual
I am confused. When I offer to buy something for say 100gp, and someone sells for 80gp, I get the item and 20gp. I just sold x noted items in the GE and I shoulda got like 50k, but when i collected it was 130k. I went to bank and grabbed/listed same amount of items and got 195k. Third time i got exactly what the GE interface said I should be getting. Fourth time I got like 80k. Is this some type of bug/glitch that I should report in more detail? Thanks in advance for your reply
Michael
Not a bug, the GE sells/buys for whatever people are offering at that moment in time.
Sy_Accursed
It's stupidly complicated to try and work out but essentially: Small differences it sells at buy amount leaving the buyer with extra gp.Big differences it goes somewhere in the middle so buyer gets some gp back and seller gets more gp than expecrted Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills :: Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA RewardsDragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue

I thought it was the much simpler scenario: 1) If there are more sellers than buyers it sells for the lowest sell price Example: I put in an offer to buy 100 willow logs for 1k each. There is already a sellers offering to sell for 20gp I buy my 100 for 2k and get 98k back. 2) If there are more buyers than sellers then it sells for the highest buy price Example: I go to sell a cracker for 1b Someone already has a buy offer in for 1.5b I get 1.5b for my cracker. give F2P a penny and they want a dime; give P2P a quarter, they want 100,000 dollars, your car, house, boat, social security number, credit card numbers, drivers license, clothes on your back and everything you ever owned or interacted with ever
Sy_Accursed
It works more first come first served than that. It's definitely quite erratic in outcomes, I know that much. Saradomin_Mage
Basically, you will never get cash unless your offer is the one being activated.Initially putting an item for sale into the GE nets you the highest buyer above your offer, giving you a surplus.Same deal for buying something - you get the lowest seller under your offer, collecting a surplus again. You might sometimes find yourself getting back cash even when you didn't put in the offer at that moment - this is due to the 4 hour limit on various items. For instance, could be buying 1,000 battlestaves for 8k. Putting in the offer nets me 100 for, say, 7.9k each. I get 10k back. The GE then suspends my offer. After 4 hours, my offer is reinstated. It immediately looks for the cheapest battlestaff offer in the market (say, 7.9k again) and gives me that price, so I get another 100 staves and 10k back. In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

Not really, it doesnt take the highest/lowest at all, it has been tested before with junks.Bottom line is you wont be paying more or selling less than what you have offered. pakalolo_mon
Uhh... If it doesn't go by highest/lowest, then why is it that an offer suddenly stops filling when I put a 1gp higher/lower offer in on another acc? I haven't tested this since around a year ago, so unless the GE mechanics changed with FT, I don't see why it'd be different.

The same reason why you can out an offer in for 10k item y at x and not get any; but put in a second or third identical offer and they fill up first. Or you can put in an offer for 10k item y at x and it not fill. Then put in an offer for 10k item y at z (where z is less than x) and that one will fill. Aka it has complex and seemingly erratic qualities, no doubt encoded by jagex to try and stop monopolization of markets and direct trades between 2 players by intentional mis-pricing. It doesnt mean they dont take the price difference into account.Maybe its some form of a price range with a dice or there are other factors that has been put into their magical formula. We dont know whats in the box and discussions are promptly dismissed for some reason, but anyways in the long run the higher offer will usually win. Themooingcow666
It's normal, i was putting a rune pickaxe in the GE as an extra holding slot (went from P2P to F2P) and put it up as 100,000 thinking ok no one will buy it, just an extra slot, logged in the next day it was bought for 115,000 lol
