DIY only accounts

This thread is a suggestion to implement a new option on the creation of your account - DIY only. This would come with many warning screens that Jagex seems so good at adding so as to stop people new from runescape from choosing it (choose only if you are a previously experienced player)

######So what does this mean?#######

Simply put - This would disable the use of the grand exchange, trading, staking, pking or any other activities that could directly transfer items between accounts

These accounts would be marked as such by a symbol next to their name when talking and when right-clicked, in a similar way that a Jagex moderator is with the gold crown.

The accounts would not be restricted to f2p only, and members could be used as an option like normal accounts.

All other minigames such as dungeoneering or fist of guthix would still be doable

Lootshare would not be available, though the joining of clans/ friend chats would be.

Request assist would not be available

Perhaps an extra room of clan wars just for these type of accounts (with viewing orbs of course).

#=

#########Why would I want these restrictions?!##########

Many people already play this way, but have no way to show that they do so, and this would mean they are able to prove their dedication to do it yourself runescaping

It adds an extra challenge element to the game, in the same way you might try and complete a zelda game without getting a heard piece.

It just makes the game more varied, and brings back the long lost aspect of earning your first mithril plate that the security strongholds destroyed long ago.

Its fun! What could be more fun than killing gwd bosses to build your own godsword (provided you have made a mithril grapple to get into armadyl first!), or to smith your own rune armour.

Response to points raised :

What about people who already DIY, they will be left out

- This is unfortunate but it is impossible to work out if someone has ever traded, drop traded or used the ge, and also allows everyone to start from the same point

What about drop trades

- Would work in a similar way to the previous pre-trade limit 3k barrier, but would block all items appearing on the ground worth over 0gp!

What about free for all bosses

- Well its a free for all! You are not lootsharing and it is within fair restrictions I think to allow boss hunting in teams when you cannot share loot anyway. Also remember that bossing would be extremely difficult. Want brews? You are going to have to collect lants from drops or farming.

I'll be adding to this as the idea grows, feel free to add your ideas and definitely support it! (spelling and grammar fixes always welcome )

Seems utterly pointless.

If you want to have a DIY account you do not need jagex's help.

What if a DIY player is hacked, and everything taken? This simply makes the account unable to be hacked as youare unable to take things off them.

Also, if PVP is disabled, what about questing in the wilderness? If a player attacks them, they would be unable to fight back....

So?

1) Everyone has equal chance of being hacked

2) If they ARE hacked the hacker would jsut drop everything, just cause they can't trade it won't mean they won't ruin your account for you

3) Anyone who actually gets hacked is useless. Between a good AV/firewall and having common sense about websites you visit and your password short of some uber hacker geek taking out a vendetta agaisnt you you're not gonna get hacked.

That is kind of beside the point, just because you fail to see these accounts being fun, doesn't mean others won't

And this sort of sets a standard to be used, and you would be able to PROVE to other people that your account is a diy only one, making that bandos godsword you're wearing seem a lot more impressive.

I never said I don;t find them fun.

I merely said I find this idea pointless as there is no need for it in order to do a DIY account.

I don't think this needs to be implemented; furthermore, I think it's one of those things that Jagex can't implement without a time machine. Plus, if you have a DIY account, your own pride in your account should be enough; you shouldn't need some sort of coded recognition system just say say "hey, I'm soo cool, I got all this stuff myself"

Squab unleashes Megiddo! Completed all quests and hard diaries. 75+ Skiller. (At one point.) 2000+ total. 99 Magic.

my difinition of noob is i dont like u, either u are better then me or u are worst them me

Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

It is ego driven, like the people who post endurance runs on games like "Final Fantasy beat with one character" or "all white mages" etc, and then post the videos up on Youtube.

I like the idea, of adding an extra challenge to the game. I don't think that's it's pointless to have Jagex's help either, because with the symbol he mentioned, you have proof that you work for yourself. I think this makes the game seem, almost like a single player, though there are other people to get in your way. Adding challenges can't hurt the game, but it can improve it. Great idea!

  • 4 weeks later...

How about the quests which require the help of another player (Shield of Arrav and Heroes')? Some DIY'ers consider doing them cheating, but still, they are a requirement for several high level quests, such as Legends', which is a requirement for RFD and WGS.

Good idea though, I'm thinking of creating a DIY account myself, I always enjoy extra challenges :)

Nice necro. I'd like the idea, although I don't think it's absolutely necessary. Really the main thing it accomplishes is just more prestige in that people know if you're lying about being 100% DIY or not.

Also, funny to see Runar's post, as now he is one of the top DIYers :P
