Dungeoneering: The Remake

So yeah, making a remake of Dungeoneering, hopefully it'll work out.

 

The background setting of the world:

In the world of Terra the story takes place. It's history, a bloody one. When man discovered how to become a God, many fools flocked to the chance, but many did not know that a price had to be paid to truly bend the world to your favour. Wars were fought because of these new found powers, people believing they could conquer the world with an army of magicians, others deeming these sorcerers as heretic scum, that freely walk around in the sight of God and must be punished. Years of blood shed, thousands, if not millions of people sacrificed, these sacrifices going on to fuel the might of the magicians, as well as the spirits of men. Truly the world was beyond saving, cities wiped from existence, forests burned to the ground, oceans turned to deserts and deserts to oceans. The power of these ancient magicians was far too dangerous for such power drunken fools, that artefacts that truly bended nature were locked away. Stones that gave magicians pure reign over their powers, jewels that twisted the form of men into demons and worse. Weapons that if released, would truly shake the crumbling foundations the world stands on.

 

The wizards were defeated, with their artefacts gone and their resources dwindling, they were utterly helpless. Thankfully to the kind kings of the kingdoms that stretched far, the wizards were allowed to live, integrated into society. Of course, the tensions rise and blood is still shed, but the wise old king holds his kingdom together, through war with monstrous beings that invade, or the power hungry maniacs that still roam about the streets, plotting the very demise of the King himself. It makes one wonder if such a world will ever pull through.

 

 

The rules

It's a play by post roleplay game, so no more IRC, and it will be session based.

 

Death is not permanent, although holds penalties

 

If the session accidentally ends too soon, such as my internet being cut off, it ends there and the latest posts I missed will be taken care of when I return, although the session will not continue.

You are not shown your stats

 

PVP is allowed, initiative is whoever posts first mixed with what action you do during that post.

 

Arguements will be settled by me, and taken to PM

 

Mary sues will be punished

Other notes:

 

This will have a general story that I hope you will all follow, and I will try have everyone taking part

 

Exploitation (I will begin to notice when you do it) Metagaming (Looking at other's posts and using it to your advantage) General [bleep]ery will be punished by me being a [bleep] to you.

 

Magic needs reagents (which generally relate to the spell) and if you are not providing them, they will take it from somewhere.

 

All forms of magic are available, if you can think it up you can do it with the appropirate skill in magic and the appropirate reagents. Higher level skills either make you require less reagents, allow you to cast more complex spells or just make them simply stronger.

So in regards to the system, it uses attributes from DnD, but anything related to our stats will only be seen and calculated by you, and the rest of the stuff is GM fiat (as in, it's more of something that you judge rather than there being hard rules for it), like Dungeoneering, right?

Pretty much.

 

It uses the combat and stats from DnD as well as stuff like AC and I will probably make weapons like it too.

 

Other than that, I have other rules for other things, such as XP.

Well the game wont start for a little while, as I get a folder and everything set up, and write up a few locations.

 

Character creation, just giving a name is fine, but giving a backstory allows you to work your way to your final goal a little faster I guess, as it changes your opening stats.

You know how Håkon is anyways, primarily brawns, good brains and awful at dealing with living things apart from canines. His head-on attitude along with his smarts are evident in his use of magic.

Sir Alaric, Knight of the Round Table.

 

With the Battle for Terra fought, for that is what the battle against the Wizards truely was...the battle for the survival of our world...the Kings and Duchies set about their usual squabbles, inheritance and conquest the tools of the day...But for some the Battle for Terra was not the final chapter in the Annuals of Magic, for some it was only an interlude, a chance for the artefacts once hoarded by the Wizards to be scattered to the wind, ready for the next generation to take them up. His liege is one such man.

The Good King Oswald assembled the Knights of the Round Table, eleven men of honour, to seek out the artefacts, and so each of the Knights went their seperate ways. Sir Alaric, on the advice of one of the surviving Wizards in the Kingdom of Hosltein, took the long journey to the Kingdom of [insert Kingdom where the game takes place here].

 

John von Alaric is a Romantic, skilled in swordsmanship, battlecraft, conversation, mathematics and matters of subtley and disgression (Aka Intelligence, Charisma, Strength, Endurence, Dexterity are above average), but following a strict code(feel free to be inventive), which disallows the use of magic in near all circumstances. While he quests for the magic artefacts Sir Alaric does not consider himself ordained to wield the power of the Gods.

Only circumstances it is allowed should be matters of life and death, decided by the Mod. (aka, I say I do it and the Mod, you, either says I am allowed to do it, or you say my character doesn't think it is dangerous enough yet and I get to retake my action).

 

 

 

Character will hopefully be fairly knightly, with quests and what not. =P

Earth

 

Named only on what he remembers, Earth is skilled in magics of the Earth, from conjuring vines to using them as weapons (Better Geomancy and Plantomancy, whatever the hell thaat is.) But he remembers almost nothing of politics and social interaction, or even which wy to hold a weapon. (Incompetant in anything based on history, very bad with weapons.) Despite this, he has managed to survive in woods and forests on his own, building a small home for himself (Better builder and more tracking skills in forest, good sense of direction.) But now as he ventures out to find out who he was, despite which he will hardly ever go nto a city or town (Self explanatory) He hopes he'll just have some fun.

[x] is an aspiring scholar who studied history (Openly) and magic (Secretly) with the goal of rediscovering many of the secrets of the ancient magicians. She believes that many of the secrets are at worst harmless and at best the key to solving many of the day's problems, though believes that the more dangerous magic and technology should remain hidden.

 

[x] was born in a small village but moved to a nearby city for education. She found work as a tutor, but spends much of her free time researching in a library, and from time to time she disappears from the city for up to a week at a time.
