SENIOR PRODUCT MARKETING MANAGER (RuneScape)

 

Jagex Ltd, the UK’s leading independent Online Games Studio, is looking for an exceptional Senior Product Marketing Manager to define the Global marketing strategy for its flagship product, RuneScape, creating and implementing campaigns to maximise the market exposure and revenue of this Guinness World Record holding product.

 

Operating as part of the busy Marketing department, the successful candidate will support the Executive Team in the organisation of international marketing campaigns to drive growth and profitability for RuneScape.

 

Through careful, in depth analysis of player and Industry trends, the Product Manager will make recommendations to the Executive team on the launch and growth strategies of this incredibly popular and globally recognised product.

 

Key Duties Include:

 

Assist the Executive team in the overall direction and strategy of RuneScape

Define the market position of the game product through in depth analysis of the marketplace and competitors

Fully responsible for maximising conversion, engagement and monetisation of games

Responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategy for RuneScape

Develops a deep understanding of players and the competitive landscape through continual analysis of user behaviours and market research

Work closely with developers, games designers and community managers to constantly improve the players experience

 

Essential Requirements:

 

Extensive experience in the marketing and brand management of consumer facing products

An understanding of the games industry and its consumers

Experience of planning and developing customer acquisition and retention programmes

Excellent communication skills with the ability to pitch and present to internal and external stakeholders

Strong relationship building and influencing skills

Proven experience of Product Management

I think the rant is about the "micro-transaction" part ;) Which may suggest we get even worse things in the future.

It's no surprise to me that the general RS community is so much against micro transactions.

Runescape is, after all, the "worlds biggest free mmorpg". Free being the keyword.

Meaning the majority of players are cheapskates, ergo micro-transactions, or paying for something to gain an advantage, is poorly accepted amongst the masses.

 

Microtransactions will not ruin the game. The people in it will ruin the game as a result of being cheapskates, migrating elsewhere to find another free game where "the developers actually care about us". *spits*.

Or, we've been around enough to remember the Jagex that once waged war against bots and RWT because they believed that outer-game wealth should not affect in-game wealth or give any in-game advantage.

Sure. I also remember an Andrew that tried as hard as he could to maintain RS as a free game, yet due to monetary circumstances he had to set up a pay-to-play option which ultimately got him and his brother up and out of his mothers basement where they hosted and created the game and made them some of the richest bachelors in England under the age of 30.

 

Times change, and the Jagex of which you speak was a different company.

 

Jagex is owned by external investors now and romanticizing the past is all good and well, but coming to terms with reality is probably best for all of us.

I think you're all reading waay too much into this.

They require someone for this position that understands RS as a business. Clearly they are not going to remove P2P and therefore need someone who understands how membership/subscription in an online game works. What's so terrible about this?
