Hi guys,

 

I'm an old school RS'er that played the game way back in the day when there were just 3 servers, where Lumbridge was a place of safety and where Varrock consisted of people visiting the magic shop and the door being locked behind you and ultimately resulting in your death before you had chance to escape - the time where people used to collect the re-spawning arrows at the bottom of the right wing of Lumbridge castle. A time where if you got a Mith plate drop you were rather rich. The days where Rune armour was released and there were hundreds of people clicking the armour vendor repeatedly in an attempt to get a piece of Rune. When the Sabre clan dominated everyone and everything in its path.

 

The battles between Sabres and the Jaguars (i think it was the Jags?) were on an epic scale and often found themselves fighting above the dwarves mines.

 

I remember being the first person to ever get a Rune Med beneath Kalmanjaro, that was an awesome feeling! I even remember Andrew, on his actual character, going around Falador on Halloween dropping Pumpkins and people following him like the plague - it was so fun to be able to interact with the developer of the game. The low point of my time on RS, other than what you see below, was being scammed out of i think 100,000 GP (i think we used to call it GP, it has been so long i cannot really remember) for a Rune2Hander - there was a player called 'moderator' present, he said i should go ahead and give the guy i was trading with the coins and he would give me the R2H afterwards - i was young and naive and accepted - you can probably imagine what happened LOL.

 

Actually, the worst part of my Runescape career was hearing of a guy who killed himself live on cam, he was an awesome Runescaper and ultimately ended his life because of the game. It was so sad, i used to see him in the wilderness all the time usually near the ice giants at the back of the wilderness.

 

I actually had an older Tip.it account that i cannot seem to access. I wanted to actually come here to Tip.it and try and find the post that i made all those years ago, announcing that my account was re-instated (it was temporarily banned due to the strange way the system used to work for paying for P2P, i actually got scammed by some dude who offered me P2P in return for gold, he gave me it and then reversed the transaction) - i posted here to say yay, i got my account back and posted images of the 4 Christmas Hats i had - just ten minutes later my account was hacked and my PHats gone. That was so devastating back in the day.

 

Does anyone remember ChewyShoe? Just curious. He used to be the richest guy (along with Bluerose13x) on the game, he simply bought stuff for cheap and sold it on for a huge profit.

 

Anyway, the reason for this post is i just wanted to say hi and ultimately wanted to feel a little nostalgia from my childhood - i was 14 when i started playing and now i'm 24, jeez, where did all the time go? I quit playing Runescape when Runescape 2 came out as it really didn't appeal to me - there were hundreds of others that followed my footsteps, but a game has to progress so i'm fully understanding as to why they did it. I haven't played for 7 years, this game used to be a huge part of my life. I really need a time machine to go back to these days :(

I want more information about this kid who killed himself on cam. Never heard about that. Terrible. Don't say it was because of this game though, this game didn't make him mentally ill.

Like anything in life, it's what you make of it. Is RuneScape going downhill? it depends on if you're a pessimist or optimist, there's plenty to do.

Everybody always remembers things to be better than they actually were. People think everything used to be better in the "good old days". It's just not true.

To be fair the whole 'killed himself because of the game' was heresay. I believe his name was Terminator or something? I really don't remember too well as it would of been 8 years ago or so, but there was a lot of talk about it.

I agree with Toad. We didn't go anywhere, so there is nothing special about us posting.

I have heard about a player killing himself, his name was Maarten or something after he was scammed a green mask I if I remember it correctly, but I haven't ever heard about the thing that he did it life on cam.

Maybe there are several persons who did, I'm not sure actually.

RuneScape has changed yes, for better of for worse. Regardless of that, it's not the game you played ten years ago. I'm afraid you'll find the RuneScape of today is vastly different from the one you remember. That can either be a good thing or a bad thing.

 

The community back then was alot smaller as there were far fewer players - and that made alot of difference (even though it was never the paradise some people would have it be). Today's RuneScape is vastly different from that. In my experience, it's much more an anonymous thing - it just comes with the age of the game and the size of the community I guess. I can't help but feel some of the 'magic' is lost, however, as the community grew and the game advanced.
