dabomb350z
I quit runescape about 4 or 5 months ago due to the massive amounts of bots. Everything I did was ruined by all the bots. I would love to continue playing the game but it's not worth it if I have to play with all the bots. I've heard that recently JaGeX actually did something to help reduce them in their numbers and I noticed in the GE that prices had started to go up for basic supplies. So is it actually true that there is a significantly lower amount of bots roaming the world of runescape now? Cause I'd love to come back! :D
sebas379
Yes, they nuked a large amount of bots to smithereens, as you can see by the number of people online [hide]First they came to fishing and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing; Then they came to the yews and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews; Then they came for the ores and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores; Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.[/hide]
Kaida23
It's very much true. I can't speak to the members' worlds, but the free worlds are wonderfully bot free. Check out my blog to read the Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero. THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P. So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...
JohnTheCop
almost all are gone, any reflection bot is gone which made up 90%+ of the bots in the game "Happiness depends more on the inward disposition of mind than on outward circumstances."Benjamin Franklin "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."Albert Einstein
ilovecuttingyews
Jagex rewrote a lot of code in a very sneaky way that wrecked all reflection/injection bots. It is possible to remake them*, but for now RS is 99% bot free (only bots really left are auto clickers like alch bots) so now is a good time to come back. * The creator of a bot client already created a working bot post-nuke, he showed it to Jagex, and they hired him to work on the anti-bot team**. So it is possible for bot makers to get around it, but most of them are not nearly half as smart as this certain guy and with him working on the other side, I expect reflection/injection bots to be out of the game for a significant time if not forever (most new bot makers are looking at screen scrapers). ** This isn't confirmed, but he has hinted at it heavily. jddogg
reflection injection, screen scrapers? What is all this lingo haha? What the hell is a screen scraper?
Kaida23
reflection injection, screen scrapers? What is all this lingo haha? What the hell is a screen scraper?Reflection/injection bots used the actual code to identify items and used those ID's to tell where to go and what to do (that's a very simplified explanation), and screen cap bots use visual cues like pixel colors. Assume Nothing
I believe they did not actually kill injection or reflection - they simply made it unfeasible to maintain a bot, as 'hooking the fields' (I believe that's compiling the item ids?) have been made much harder. It is true that a significant majority of autonomous players (what I refer to as 'ghosts') are indeed gone, but do acknowledge that there are still colourbased bots out there that are still in operation. At least, instead of destroying the game itself, it only tarnishes on the integrity of RS gameplay.

Wannabe_Slim
The only currently working bots are graphic recognition bots. Which are less than 2% of the bots community, so they are not as noticeable as before. So yes, 98% of the bots are done, and will stay offline for a long period of time. Skimming botting forums essentially before they injected onto or reflected the code which had item groups and item ids readily available eg they could see object 555 (yew tree) and whether it was 0 (up) or 1 (down) and react accordingly. The Cluster Flutterer made them all hidden, its jsut 1 giant object array with no id codes readable at all. Any bot that worked around this wouldn't be injection or reflection it would be FAR more complex, but equally would very obviously break copyright laws AND be infinitely more detectable; hence many bot devs called it quits.
