Would it be worth it to get a void mage helm for ganodermics and Barrows? I already have every other piece, so it wouldn't take very long in a good world. Would it be better than the usual Ahrim gear? I can post the rest of my mage gear if necessary.

Ahrims is better than void in all ways other than price from what I remember.

works if you already have a set, but if you haven't, Ahrim is a better choice.

 

Unless you were already planning to use Void Mage for anything else besides Barrows and Ganodermics

 

Oh, while on the topic, I highly recommend AGAINST using mage gear for barrowing, anything above +15 magic attack bonus is pratically unnoticeable in killing speed of the brothers, even when Maging karil.

Mage Void is virtually useless. It's only an accuracy buffer. And it's not much of an accuracy buffer since your mage bonus is now so low because you have to wear void in the first place.

Sure, but you risk death using SS, and you gain nothing over deflect magic by using SS instead anyway...

Well I forgot to mention I use neem oil. Imo it makes for faster kills instead of trying to safespot each kill. After the beast is froze, I just leave ss on until its dead, which is what makes them semi-afk. Since the spawns are a couple of seconds, you can repeat this process quickly.

Practically unnoticeable? Hrm. I feel like I was killing them faster in void mage than with +17 magic attack bonus in melee armor. And I felt like my clanmate was going through the brothers faster than me in gano, even though he's only 94-ish mage. I assume you tested it yourself but my experiences seem to differ.

My experience with magic gear is nowhere near my experience with maging in Verac set (which comprises of at least 50% of my barrowing career).

 

But whenever I did try it, the only thing I noticed was that I had to change armor between brothers as Magic robes had very low defence.

 

I hadn't tried using Ganodermics, because I was frawning upon its total lack of Stab and ranged defence, especially stab, which is Guthan's primary attack. I'd rather take tank him with a high stab defence than with prayer and low stab as he heals through prayer, thus can make the kill slower.

 

I'll try Gano sometime once I have more flakes.

 

I was recommending verac's adamantly for several reasons besides its low magic attack penalty. Prayer bonus, defense bonus, the fact it is repaired with low amounts of cash (as opposed to flakes with Ganodermics, or the higher upkeep costs of Nex armors, etc), and its starting capital requirement is low (you only need about 2.5M for the set, but you need fair bit more than that for Ganodermics).
