steels, mage or melee?

I just received a steel dragon task, and am wondering what I should do:

 

either mage them with PPS - Or melee with C-rapier?

Well melee is in the mid 90s, and magic 87.. I'm wishing to raise both actually.. Gear I can more or less just buy (using verac skirt, glory, proselyte top for melee, stream + ??? for mage)

Ahrims for mage. It's really down to you what you want to do imo.

I always melee all metal dragons, it's faster and it's the exp I want. Also PPS doesn't give a lot of exp so I would think it would be better to melee anyway, unless you are 99 all melee stats but not 99 magic.

You can also think of it this way: Steels are one of the few tasks that magic is closer to melee in effectiveness. There are plenty of other tasks that will get you melee experience all the same. But not as many that would get you that good of magic experience. So i personally would mage them.

Melee is faster anyway, especially with your stats and gear. So, just melee them, basically.

 

If you really wanted the mage xp, Storm of Armadyl would be better. Polypore isn't great for mage xp because unlike other spells, you don't get base xp for each cast.

Melee. PPS gives bad mage experience anyway. If you want xp use SoA. (firesurge is good xp, but it's overpriced for it's effectiveness imo.)

Still decided to mage, now that it is payable & half decent I'm taking up my old hobby of maging everything again :P.

 

Wasn't bad, with melee I miss around 50% of the time (with piety & extremes). With mage I missed only 10-20% of the time.

Yeah as long as you have slayer helm and c-rapier you should power through the task. Magic exp from the task will be too low anyways for the cost put into it and will most likely add about 10-20 mins on the task depending on the amount.

@ hatebringer: well price difference between PPS & rapier is low: rapier costs 133 coins per hit. Polypore staff costs 190 coins per hit. And given the fact you ko dragons in less hits (though might be more time, difficult to say) + the fact you dont'have to use prayer potions on melee prot prayer (only had mystic might on), meant that magic is the same cost as rapier / dragon killed.
