Barb fishing - is this normal?

I'm level 84 fishing, using decorative fishing urns and a granite lobster. I'm low-alching what I catch.

 

At 3:46, I had 190k to go til my level. Nearly 3 hours later, I still have 22k til level. This feels extremely slow at 50k~ per hour. Is something wrong here, or was i just misinformed about this being 70-80k per hr?

At higher levels it can actually get close to 100k exp/h.

You might just be having some bad luck overall, but i remember when i started doing serious fishing (also around level 80 or so) my exp rates at barb wasn't what i expected it to be.

At 85 fishing, considering how click-intensive this is and not quite as good experience yet, would it be smart to switch to cavefish?

Cavefish are extremely slow. I would say either stick it out and keep heavy rod fishing, or if you really can't be bothered heavy rod fishing any more, then possibly do monkfish, which is somewhere in between barb and cavefish, leaning more towards cavefish in xp/h.

If you do go monks then play a fish flingers game every 75 mins,should be ~18k xp for a 15 min (a bit under 20 including lobby time) game,and it's quite simple to get max xp.

c2 fishing has worked out fairly well for me, I cannot give you a figure on xp rates because I haven't done it in a while. Essentially you can just do all your prestige floors on c2 rather than c1 rushing. It breaks the monotony quite well although it is also pretty click intensive.

Thanks, I guess I'll tough it out with c2'ing/barb fishing again. 90 fishing can't come fast enough. >_<'

yes, not the most "effecient" way to use an effigy, but it's an excuse to cannon things and, imo, much more enjoyable then regualr fishing.

Much slower, much more expensive, and completely irrelevant to the question...

 

Kim, just stick with c2's and barb like you have planned. As you level, you should see the xp rates increase a little bit each time.

I was also surprised at the xp rate low alching at barb, although it was even slower for me. I guess its just the difference in having 99 or not.
