this is how i ruined my previous expensive laptop in fact (water damage from saliva). Is my head, in mechanical terms an elliptical spheroid with a single universal joint, the neck, to close to the screen or what..? maybe I need some glasses. but it's just so hard to click those ruby butterflies without being so close.

actually, you know, i read recently a 145% slant is best for sitting (the > the slant the better, but since if you slant more than that it gets hard to function sitting, that's what's recommended).

 

and the reason seems simple enough: the straighter you sit the more pressure your vertebre put on one other, and the less they put on the chair.

mm arching might not be good. but you don't have to arch very much (unless not arching sacrifices a/p of course). you bring up an interesting point though. i will have to measure how much i arch one day.

This image says 90 is bad and favors a larger angle. Idk about anyone else, but i find acute to be more comfortable (I rest my head on my left hand and slouch a lot).

Too bad with this is that in picture one, your eyes are screwed. No one can keep up posture two for very long. And that chair in picture three doesn't exist.

Hey, my chair does exactly this! Haven't ever used it like that though, it actually is pretty comfy, although I feel like I want to be closer to the screen!

i sit sort of laid back, and on occasion i will sit in a more acute posture, as hedge said, with my head resting on my left hand, but i don't think i could ever sit at a 90 degree angle and be able to keep it up for so long. it's ridiculously uncomfortable.

the most important thing is to keep ur back naturally straight (double S form)

 

the problem with sitting at a 90° angle is that its not practical since after about 5 mins of sitting like this muscles around ur spine start to tire which leads to ppl slouching.

 

the only problem with the 135° angle is that ur thoracic spine, the vertabre in ur neck most importantly, are no not straight. same goes for 70° angle but with regards to the lumbar section (lower back).

 

sitting for hours like this is what leads to herniated disks so it is important how u sit.

 

technically the best thing to do is switch positions every 15 or so mins so there is never a constant strain on ur back.

i lay down on my bed and my computer is either sideways or on top with my homemade computer hanger

it is very comfortable, and i never get tired

As a point about the sitting position, 90 deg is great, but only if your sitting on stool or something else without a back. The problem with chairs is that the back allows you to sit up with a lot less muscels active, which transfers a lot more load directly onto your spine that should be supported by your core (abdomen muscles). If your going to use a chair with a back, your better off leaning back like that picture shows, so that the back of the chair can actually help support the weight of your upper body without slowly crushing your spine.

 

Ideally, you would have a chair that can support your head too, and your monitor would be floating so that you don't need to tilt your head forward to see it. This would also require you to be able to touch type.

 

In practical terms, the healthiest way to use a computer would be to have the keyboard at waist height, and the monitor up around shoulder level, and spend half your time standing, alternating with sitting on a tall backless chair.

 

Alternatively, you can suspend your monitor from the ceiling, lay on your bed looking at the ceiling, and invent a keyboard that is made so you can have half of it on one side, half on the other, and one half has a track ball because trying to use a mouse on a bed is an exercise in frustration. Problem here is it makes it harder to sleep, because now your body is trained to think being on a bed means computer games, instead of the more ideal being on a bed means sleep time.
