archimage_a
Steamrollers gonna ally. Unless you make it impossible to ally with other steamrollers(in which case players don't attack each other, so it amounts to the same thing), then the game has all the non-steamrollers die off, and then the steamrollers kill each other. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. Unless you make it impossible to ally with other steamrollers(in which case players don't attack each other, so it amounts to the same thing), then the game has all the non-steamrollers die off, and then the steamrollers kill each other. If the steamrollers take risks, then they deserve to keep steamrolling if they succeed. Hegemony wouldn't be fun at all without steamrollers (namely Dusty) chugging ahead and causing conflict. Grim_
*Another* option would be for players to not act like power hungry dictators for once. Or you know NPCs could grow half a spine for once (well aside from the last arch hegemony) and act on threats that are near them. I mean, sure you can beat the living [cabbage] out of the ivory coast and take slaves, but can you beat back Britain and France as well? Or players could actually role play slightly and put themselves into the role of the power hungry megalomaniac that they supposedly are (You don't make alliances with other superpowers, at least for long at any rate). Retech the premise of hegemony is/was "You now have control over a country, what do you do (which involved some roleplaying)?" just because you started off playing it as something other than what was intended in the original thread doesn't mean that is what the original premise is. archimage_a
But they don't cause conflict...They hang around, waiting for their massive army to be ready...then kill everyone. And because everyone else wants to play the long game, they don't have a massive army. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts. Well I know that Hegemony didn't start that way, but it implies that the point of the game is to establish Hegemony, when the name of the game is Hegemony. Gaining power and roleplaying are not necessary mutually exclusive, especially when if I gained control of a country, I would attempt to start gobbling countries near me until I established control of a continent (or a major land mass), so there wouldn't be any country with a significant land border. And not having a large army in a world filled with power hungry crazies is not exactly smart...or sane. Master of your domain? I am Lord of the manor, Queen of the castle, King of the county! archimage_a
I think what Grim means...is that there is not just ONE MASTER PLAN that has to be followed, and if there is a roadbump you fire your nukes at the person who disagreed with you. I do think that the way forward is to remove numbers, and have NPCs with spines though, since we don't have enough players to outlaw steamrollering =P http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. The_Mather1
Just to give you a slight taste of what 17th of May is like:http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/ss280/mather1/?action=view¤t=VIDEO0019.mp4Poorly filmed, but what can you expect from a teenager with a smartphone and a bad location. I'm near the end of the parade and that's why there's a shortage on singing. http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/ss280/mather1/?action=view¤t=VIDEO0022.mp4This is an hour later at a better location, but I had little time. That parade is quite a lot shorter but is for what would be equivalent to high-school seniors. It grows weirder and weirder up to the point where teenagers in diapers riding shopping carts is quite frequent. I did not however have time to film any more than that short clip. The entire point of being a "Russ" like them is to get the immaturity out of your system, it's all about being wild, drinking, partying and breaking rules... and handing out cards with adult jokes to kids. Also there's a small temporary amusement park right nearby, I couldn't get a good spot to take a picture from though. Keep in mind that this is in Drammen, with 63,000 citizens, Oslo with many times that (912,000 or 1,422,500 depending on how you define it) obviously has way larger parades and a bigger amusement park. Grim_
I don't see why totally destroying a nation that opposes you isn't a more commonly used strategy. :PMainly because total destruction is not exactly cost effective, and hard as hell to do (when you're marching in ground troops you set the stage for asymmetrical warfare. That and when you conquer a country you generally want something other than the total destruction of its lands.
archimage_a
Because pressing and holding 'Build armies' does not constitute a strategy...Also, some people like to believe that they are actually controlling a country...rather than an army of civilians. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. archimage_a
Hey all, probably no one but Ross and Ico can watch this (damn you BBC), but if you can you should:http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00t6xzz/The_Wave/ If you can't then I would urge you to watch this version instead:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFFpiki8gHc&feature=related It is older(though in my opinion, has a considerably better ending) Pretty amazing stuff...See how it relates to your lives. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. archimage_a
TV remote and an Antibox remote...for two machines that are what? Half a meter away? Also, no books? I have 9 books on the shelf and 4 books I am using to prop up the laptop. Along with 12 DVDs, one folder, a lamp, a clipboard, headphones, two memory sticks, one memory card adapter, a battery charger and a collection of batteries. I somewhat question the need to have a TV set NEXT TO your computer... http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts. The_Mather1
Sere, out of those, I've bought Packard Bell, the HP (school computer), the TV, the DS and half the PS3 with my own money, the HTC, the Logitech controller and the HDD were Christmas presents, the screen is from my old computer, the Dell was the first computer I got that's from after the millennium change and me and my sister both got Altiboxes because there was too much dispute about who should chose channels downstairs. So that's not why I'm spoiled, I'm spoiled because my parents gave me a motorcycle for my confirmation. Archi, the Altibox has no buttons at all and my TV only has the most basic functions as buttons. Also the bookshelf is on the other end of the room and the DVD/games rack was just outside the picture. For the proximity of my TV and my computers; I tend to get bored, very bored. Also my TV is currently my computer screen. Twitter: @TheMather1
archimage_a
Yes..I tend to get very bored on occation...I walk from the computer room, to the family room. The_Mather1
On those occasions I used to bring the computer with me, so the only difference is that now I've got three computers in front of the TV instead of one.And by very bored I don't mean that I need one thing to do, I mean two or three at the same time, one time I think I tried four but that was pushing my concentration a little too far.
