i was trying to create a new account hashly and select the 12 or under option, the result is an error message said you need to be 13+ to create account

It is all about Coppa regulations...its just some legal stuff that Jagex have to comply with.

he choses 12 and under and hit submit

 

 

 

sees that he has to be older

 

 

 

goes back and picks between 13 and 17

Jagex are Just doing it to safeguard themselves from possible legal action, in accordance with the COPPA acts.

Like dacoola said, they are just obeying COPPA regulations. But it's really not doing anything. The underaged person could just select an older age.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Their only real hope that they don't lie about their age is if that person is really stupid or really law-abiding to not put an older age.

because people under 12 might not even know how to play and will be confused and act like total noobs which is the last thing we need in runescape

My litle sister is 8 and loves runescape. She dies a lot though. But shes not a total noob unlike some much older people I've met.

It's illegal for anyone under 13 to play (or at least it should be)

No. It actually happens. In my opinion only about 20% of 12- year olds are actualy seriouse about the game. These players are seriouse about the game and want to play it. They are natural gamers meaning they catch up to the game basics fast and become really good with getting around and basic stuff at around level 10-20. Where other are hanging around in 2-3 main towns and lvl up on nooby monsters like guards and goblins. There for they get bored of the game MUCH faster and entertain themselves with begging/annoying/scamming/hacking/macroing and other things.

 

 

 

So Jagex been bugged about it for a long time and finaly they'v put up this button. Like "Here. We are doing something Mkay? Now get off our backs"

weasal ur probly right exept not 20% but 70% i know a lot of ppl that play 12 and under and take the game seriously just like gta. :wink:

It doesn't mean that all 12- year old you know make up that 70%. I know few people who under 13 and are nice people too but we don't know for sure how many 12 year olds play this game. :?
