The Elder Kiln

Featured Replies

DO NOT use a holy aura when fighting the TokTz-Ket-Dill. I had the Reverence aura activated during one of the fights and the message "Your holy aura appears to enrage the TokTz-Ket-Dill" popped up every time the Dill attacked. This message is followed by the Dill's ground stomp attack. This attack happens EVERY TURN if your aura is activated and I was personally butchered by the Dill since the stomp can't be blocked. This should be added to the Elder Kiln guide, not sure if it also applies to the "TokTz-Ket-Dill" quest.

Hope this Helps!

(I have a screen shot that can verify this, but I'm not sure how to upload it to the forums, so if you need it, I would need instruction in this manner)

Thanks!

Did you have a protect prayer on at the time? Because that was what seemed to happen when I did the quest and prayed melee.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what seems to be happening. Upon going on through the quest more, I found it was enraged when I prayed sometimes, but not all the time. I think it might just be prayer and not have to do with the auras at all. In this case, prayer should apparently not be used. Not sure if this is in the guide or not, but if not then it would be a helpful addition I'm sure.

Thanks!

I just did the part of the quest will the Dill. I did not have a prayer related aura, but I did pray mage for the lava monsters while I killed the Dill. Mage prayer didn't make the Dill stomp, so I'm guessing that this is only caused by the melee prayer.

You can upload them to an image hosting site like Imgur or imageshack and then copy the link to the image in your post or put it between sZub8.png

That all said, I think it may be the fact that you had the protect from melee prayer activated, because I had Reverence activated and did not have this problem.

Thanks very much for the assistance.

I think its safe to say that this occurs when Protect from Melee is activated and this should be added to the guide (If not already present)

The quest guide atm says:

Be aware that the TokTz-Ket-Dill has a stomp attack that will hit you for up to 200 LP, and cannot be protected against/deflected! A chat message will appear warning you of the impending attack. Protect-from/deflect the magic attacks of the Lava monsters if you wish while fighting them.

it does say you can't protect from his melee attacks and to pray against magic. Imo that should be enough, I don't think there is any need to warn against praying against melee attacks.

No, the point is that praying against Melee makes him stomp EVERY time. You can pray against his regular attacks, but praying just makes him not use his regular attacks (if that makes any sense). This guide does not make that clear, instead making it seem that only the stomp bypasses prayer, not that praying makes the stomp happen every turn. It should read something like "Do not bother using prayer at all while fighting the Dill because prayer makes it use the stomp every attack sequence, thus owning you and negating the use of prayer." Right now, one might think you can pray and not be hit until it occasionally uses the stomp, when in fact praying makes the stomp go every turn. This should be added to the guide to save players time and resources.

I used protect against magic and he only used his stop attack sometimes. When I turned on protect from melee he got enraged and starting doing a lot of damage to me. He didn't get enraged when I used protect against range.

The correct way to reference it, to make it a bit clearer would be:

Using protect-from/deflect melee prayer will cause TokTz-Ket-Dil to use his unblockable stomp attack every turn, this attack can cause up to 200lp damage. Protect-from/Deflect Magic or Ranged can still be used without triggering this attack.

Comma splice.

The attack still occurs without praying against melee, so it doesn't necessarily trigger it, however causes the creature to use it continuously. I prayed magic to avoid the damage by Lava monsters, which was significant enough to justify the few stomp attacks I had to endure before the dills died.

Anyway, I've reworded the text somewhat to clarify this and credited you, Aceethan. Thanks for pointing it out.

That is poorly phrased, because praying at all will trigger his stomp. So no, that's not the correct way to phrase it as Howlin already pointed out. To add on to his explanation, I prayed magic with the intention of blocking damage from the lava monsters, while tanking Dill's melee-based attacks, and he will still frequently use stomp.

It doesn't take very long to kill a Dill, and it seems like a lot less hassle to simply pray mage and take the 200 every 5 seconds or so or if you're that concerned, to bring magic def armor to switch into? I personally tanked and it didn't really hurt me too much. And considering every room where you face combat triggers a checkpoint on completion, you don't lose things on death, and you pop out straight to a bank, food consumption honestly isn't an issue.

True that last bit is poorly phrased but its not true that any prayer enrages him.

He uses it occasionally no matter what you do; but it is only melee prayer that enrages him and makes him do it every attack.

Praying mage or range won't make him stomp every single round of combat, he'll just stick to 'normal' combat where he occasionally stomps.

The key difference being whether he does it every 3-5 attacks (at the most frequent from what I've seen) or you pray melee and he does it EVERY attack.

Any prayer has the ability to trigger it, that is true. I didn't say every attack round, you did.

EDIT: I see what I goofed on. I should have been saying frequency. Oh well, you had your mistake, and I had mine! My bad.

hzvjpwS.gif

But prayer in general is not a trigger for it (or at least it doesn't appear to be in what I've seen); he will stomp whether you pray or not. I had him stomp me in the jumping room where you face him alone and that was prayer free.

The triggered behaviour is that melee prayer makes him stomp every round.

Right, faulty grammar and whatever aside... The quest guide currently states the following:

Do not use protect from melee/deflect melee against TokTz-Ket-Dill - it may enrage it and cause it to use its stomp attack continuously. Instead, protect-from/deflect the magic attacks of the Lava monsters if you wish while fighting them.

As said, I believe the Lava monsters do enough damage to justify using protect from/deflect magic. A warning against melee prayers is justified as the continuous stomp attacks may cause a player to die during a wave.
