Weiyao
I got an iron dragons task. I would like to skip it at my levels but I'm only a few tasks away from unlocking slay helm now. What approach and set up would you suggest? My mage isn't vaguely good enough to mage them imo, would melee at my stats be more or less plausible than maging them? Thanks in advance. Edit: I guess I can get up my mage before the task too. What level would you suggest for maging them?

Quyneax
I would personally go with melee - brackish blade, chivalry (you need one more prayer level) and protect melee in proselyte. Boris5000
Aim for Max prayer bonus w/ Highest stab. Neitz + Prossy (or initiate), glory, d boots, highest RFD gloves, antifire shield, Ardy cape(?)Use super Sets + antifires and bring a dds for specs. Main wep can be either brackish blade/dragon scimitar Kills will be quite slow w/o chivalry though but you should be able to get through the task. Bad911
Why are people recommending melee? I found Steel/Iron dragons to be hard-as-nails with his melee stats. Definitely use magic and fire bolt with chaos gauntlets. Chaos runes are cheap, just get the best magic gear you can manage.

To be fair, it is a cointoss at this stats the difference at the OPs level is neglible. OP could avg 3-4 kills/dose at his current stats.Yes he could use PPS but using a PPS costs ~500k itself. Ommitting the fact you require 80 magic. I personally found it easier to melee irons at the same levels as the OP, Fire bolts w/ chaos gloves is a viable option (costs ~200gp/cast) To balance out the combat triangle you can also range them with emerald (e) bolts and broad bolts should you choose to. Main wep can be either brackish blade/dragon scimitar Kills will be quite slow w/o chivalry though but you should be able to get through the task.Aim for the highest strength+stab attack total, any prayer bonus is a nice boost but should not be a focus. Since it's on task, black mask is mandatory, and dscim doesn't have enough stab to hit irons well. Why are people recommending melee? I found Steel/Iron dragons to be hard-as-nails with his melee stats. Definitely use magic and fire bolt with chaos gauntlets. Chaos runes are cheap, just get the best magic gear you can manage. They're fairly tough if you don't use chivalry/piety/turmoil and such, but the numbers say that chaos bolt (with the best gear available to him) will max at about 220 (240 if arcane blast necklace would be obtained), while melee will max at some 320 and be 25% faster, so you get 220 vs. 400. Melee would have to have half the accuracy of magic for mage to be worth it. I don't see that happening tbh. Bad911
He isn't exactly walking around with full maxed melee gear either guys. Not everyone wants to spend a fortune on prayer potions. Fire bolt doesn't even cost 100gp per cast and allows you to safe spot them. Who cares if it's a few seconds or even a few minutes longer a kill. A low level'd players' time is worth quite a bit less compared to someone who is higher level'd.
JeRambo
This is what I used to use for maging iron/steel dragons in the Brimhaven dungeon. This was a few years ago, so here are some substitutes for some of the items. Instead of an air staff use a Staff of Light.Full ahrims if you can afford it.Infinity boots if you can afford it.Arcane stream necklace>Amulet of fury>Glory.Farseer helm.Barrows gloves if you have completed RFD.I used fire bolt with this setup and a spirit terrorbird. Bring the best BoB you can. Collect all charms. :) Have you taken a look at the Tip.It Steel/Iron dragon hunting guide? Link "Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come." Lord Paul
By spending what you deem "a fortune" on prayer potions, you get faster kills and in the time saved can make more money to pay it off. It's why some people should fletch broad arrows and others should stick to yew longs or whatever.Besides, who doesn't like the higher hits? :) Also, wow at that picture haha.. amazing how much combat has changed, eh? Working on max and completionist capes. 2435/2475

A low level'd players' time is worth quite a bit less compared to someone who is higher level'd.1m/hr is still viable at his stats, meaning that "a few minutes" (2?) is worth 33k at the least. There's no way he's going to be spending that much on prayer potions. In fact he'd probably spend more on fire bolt casts then prayer potions. Melee is much better.
