Fight Caves.. suggestions?

I'm working on actually beating the fight caves for the first time since I want a fire cape. I tried it loong ago, with melee, and failed. I figure I could probably do it pretty easily with melee given my stats... but I've chosen mage. (is that dumb?)

I've got a lot of stuff already...

I could summon BOB... not sure if I need to or what? Can you guys help me out and give me some suggestions how to play this? Thanks in advance. I've never used Saradomin brews seriously as a healing means.. so I'm kinda new to that.

You cant bring familiars in fight caves. also if you have quest cape i recommend using the Tokkul-Zo as ring. and why the ranging pots if you mage?

 

and no mage is a great idea, i did that for my last cape, went very well. :)

1). Swap the fury for an arcane stream necklace.

2). Swap unholy book for mage's book.

3). Swap ardy cape for a god cape.

4). Swap ranging(?!?) potions for a vecna's skull.

5). Bring blood barrage runes. 300 casts should be more than enough.

6). Swap the potions (4) for flasks (6)

7). I just lowered your prayer bonus by a lot, so bring 48 doses of super restore. (8 flasks) That leaves 15 brew flasks which is more than enough.

 

Note you do NOT need all the above, but all of those will make it just a little bit easier to do. You can't bring familiars into the caves unfortunately, so no BoB for you!

 

Most people find the caves easy but suck at prayer flicking on Jad, so die right at the end. Theres no helping that, just practice the timing and learn to know his attack animations. (Stomp on ground = range. Fireball comes out of his face = mage.)

 

As for the blood barrages, you kill everything that can harm you with polypore, and then you use blood barrage on whatever you're praying against/safespotting to heal to full hp. Doing this correctly can mean you don't use a single brew for the full caves, but it's obviously a good idea to have them for safety and speedy healing on the more damaging waves.

I was looking at a guide on here for the setup... and i was basing my potions on the picture. I guess I missed out on the range potions... those must have been mage pots.. I figured maybe it was because you ranged with the polypore staff? not really sure..

 

I have quest cape but cant wear it since ive only got 300qp now... havent done most of the new quests

Polypore staff is for magic.. It has spells built into it, if you will (you charge it up beforehand with runes and spores, then you can cast 3k spells, before you need to re-charge).

Using that setup, you could bring some blood spells to heal without using brews and then tank jad's mage using ganodermic while having prayer range.

 

I did that and only used 9 brews on jad.

Flasks would be complete overkill, but you can use them so you can use a few prayer potions in place of restores. Ardy cape is probably the best cape since it has a nice prayer and magic attack bonus.

 

Blood barraging as mentioned above would be a very good tactic, but I would still prayer switch on Jad.

If you have done Ritual of the Mahjarrat, Storm of Armadyl will help quite a bit on Jad, though I'm not sure it's worth it on others.

 

Vecna's is an equivalent +3 level boost, magic potions are +5, alternating one drink of potion and one skull boost will give you an average of 4.14ish (after Vecna's boost, immediately drink mage potion when boost drops to 3, then wait for next Vecna boost) which is about 5% better dps and quite cheap.
