Blood Blitz on Vanstrom

Recommended Posts

So I was thinking that it would make the fight easier if one were to use blood blitz, so you can heal automatically, throughout the fight. Would this be feasible? (I currently have burned 209 vamps, and am going to try fighting him once I have 300 burned.)

Not sure. Vanstrom attacks with magic, so his magic defense is probably pretty good. If you haven't already, you should read a good guide on killing him with blisterwood weapons.

If you don't want to waste brews, go in and cast 20 or so spells and see how they hit.

Working on max and completionist capes.

I tried it myself in Ahrims, not sure on the shield (BSS?) and it... didn't work well.

To be fair, I just had trouble with the fight in general, not knowing his mechanics and such. Also, I didn't have Vamps burnt. It was a while ago, but from what I recall I WAS able to do decent damage to him - enough that I killing him wasn't an impossibility.

Actually, I think the real reason I gave up is because Vanstrom has a nasty habit of doing damage to you after you die. At one point I spawned in Canifis with 200LP. Scary as hell, since that meant it probably wasn't impossible for him to k0 me after I died, making me lose all my stuff. For some reason, most of the time I died I was damaged after the fight, spawning me in canifis. The biggest probably with that is that Ahrims wasn't on my auto-keep pile so I had to repair it each time.

Blarg. Been months since I did it tho. Now that I think about it, it DOES seem worth a shot.

Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

I vanquished him on my second try, and I certainly didn't have any fancy equipment - I was level 106. Are you guys all much lower levels, or did I just find the fight much easier than you?

Magic might be the hardest combat style to use on him, unless of course you have something like the SoA. The healing you get from the blood blitz shouldn't be your major concern. For one, it won't heal you that much and two, even if it did heal you a lot, it wouldn't heal you enough. I slapped on poverty gear, cooked some monkfish, was about 85-85-80 stats, and hadn't burned any vyrecorpses either. I died a few times getting the hang of it, but there are two major things I learned:

1. You need to swing your camera like a madman in the opposite direction of the center of the room as hard as you can when he does the darkness. Doesh't matter where, how, or at what angle, you gotta mitigate some damage.

2. You need to keep moving without a single pause, including combat attacks, when he does the blood chucking special. Most people don't understand this, you shouldn't be getting even a single piece of damage at this time. If you do, three things happen: One, you have to eat. Two, in eating you lose concentration and take more damage. Three, you're missing out on huge damage because he's most vulnerable at this time.

The problem with magic is that you have to get the timing right more-so than range or melee. The animation for the attack is much longer than the range and melee styles, even if it uses the same amount of "ticks". It just sounds like a bad idea tbh.

Blood Blitz's healing is more or less irrelevant against Vanstrom. He doesn't kill you by hitting you consistently until you run out of food. He kills you by doing a million gazillion damage in one shot and KO'ing you from 600 life. I died a bunch of times against him and it was never because I didn't have enough food--it was because I messed up dodging his attacks and got one-shotted.

I'm 138 noob/maxed gear and I died on him three times lol

First couple of times I wasn't prepared

Then he outlasted me

Then I actually had to bring good gear and flasks and finished him pretty easily

I used blood barrage + unicorn and I had no problem with healing at all.
