Ruinous Edge
A random thread I found in recent updates. It's been up for two days. Seems like when the spam is praising the sof, there's no problem LOL Seems like sarcasm is the way to go, maybe the mods' brains can't process it? :twss:Dis be good topic, topic be praising sof. Me no delete. Me no delete. IVPex are born without an innate sense of irony :P Meh no one reports it, mods never handle it. That's the problem when you have a system wholly dependent on user reports....but then have the SHITTIEST report system and response time ever. Basically if it's not gigantic ascii penises, you're never getting reported content handled at a reasonable time. There are good reasons why the RSOF is regarded as a cesspool. And Jagex refuse to work on giving a good forum platform for their own freaking game. Their own game! They need to take a page out of Gamefaq's book and re-structure their boards in a way that handles high volume traffic - stealing snippits from fansite boards here-and-there (and then poorly implementing them!) isn't enough. Makoto_the_Phoenix
1. The majority of the thread was about the recent update, however, it is hard to make a slippery slope argument without referencing past updates. Additionally, to help make my thread easier to understand mentioning those past updates and briefly going over the problems they caused would help newer readers understand the exact problem we are dealing with. What you are suggesting is that just mentioning a past update is worthy of a lock in the recent forums. 2. It was more of a discussion, it wasn't the "WAAAAAAAH SOF SOOOCKS" thread, I presented and explained the problem, and I provided solutions to help get rid of this problem. 3. The mod her self mentioned she was cracking down on what she called "trolls." Where in reality it seems as she was more just assuming people she didn't agree with were trolls. While some may have been less than useful, others provided information on the problem, and how to fix it. First - discussions rarely need to delve into slippery slope. They may certainly devolve into that, but need to? I don't think so. If it was a debate or a constructively written grievance with this update, RU may not have been the best place - it would belong in Rants. (Interestingly enough, RU has the most traffic of any board, and more people will post there, assuming what they've said is "recent" - when sometimes that's not the case.) Now I'll state this with my experience, so take it with a grain of salt - a general belief is that if a thread doesn't pertain to an immediately recent update, then it doesn't belong in RU. I didn't operate hard-line in that fashion, but it is a kind of generalization. I mean, if I were to start a topic about SoF from when it first started, that's obviously not a recent update, so it wouldn't belong. Second, if it was a suggestion, what was it doing in RU? If it was a constructive rant, what was it doing in RU? These are views that must be considered. Third, and finally, taking action against trolls isn't a vendetta. There's a general sentiment that, if a user is trolling the forums in any manner as so determined by the FMods, there may be one or two FMods that make an effort to monitor that forum or user in an effort to maintain civility. Creating multiple topics because you feel that you're doing the right thing, but are very clearly "in the wrong", doesn't make anything better. I'm not saying that Jagex's FMod system is worth its weight in gold; it's workable but there's clearly room for improvement. There are holes and inconsistencies galore. However, my gut is telling me that your particular case doesn't fall into an edge case. Randox
A couple point of interest about how moderation works on the RSOF for anyone interested. First, you don't get evidence and you don't get an appeal. Once in a blue moon the jmods will actually message someone, but fmods don't have this power, and they handle almost all of the frontline enforcement under the guidance of the gold team, and the gold team doesn't have the time, or desire (one or the other, maybe both) to tell people why action was taken. In most cases, there will be a lock or hide message in a previous thread where an fmod said what was going on, and then you do the same thing again and they ban you. Second, you don't want to post threads (or posts) in Recent Updates that don't belong there. Surely anyone who is an RSOF regular has by now noticed that Recent Updates suffers from a spamming problem, so it stands to reason that Jagex got tired of it, and have instructed their green team to clamp down on the threads and posts that don't belong there, and the people who post them. Thirdly, an fmod can't mute someone without a jmod reviewing it. So it stands to reason that if the bans are coming fast and furious, and this is a persistent behavior (which is it here. mutes have been coming fast for a while in RU), then what they are doing is by design and endorsed by those that set the guidelines to begin with.
Zantareous
Ah so you support Jagex crackdown on those unhappy with microtransactions? I suppose you don't mind the game sinking and dieing then either, or being milked while it dies.> Assuming anyone wants RuneScape to survive anymore. Edit: To add to my post, here is a message sent from the billing team to a player in regards to purchasing spins. [hide]Hey again [Player], Thanks for getting back to me. I do see your point, but let me assure you the Squeal of Fortune is simply meant to be a fun little minigame which adds to the overall experience rather than a method of furthering your RuneScape account such as a goldshop or similar would do. We do have big plans for RuneScape and really want to continue to invest in the RuneScape team and game itself to bring you guys great new content as much as we can. Please trust me when I say that RuneScape still has a firm footing and is definitely not close to death. We’re still spritely and youthful with only a few minor ailments which we’re working on. J What I’ll do is pass on your comments to the relevant team [Player]. If you have any other points you would like to put forward please do let me know. Kind regards,Mod Luke TBilling Support Team[/hide] Microtransactions are not needed according to Jagex. 1 ........::::: Rainy's YouTube Channel - Rainy's Twitter - Rainy's Facebook - Rainy's DeviantArt - Rainy's Tumblr - Rainy's Tip.It Profile :::::.........
