F2P Dungeoneering Rewards Post-EOC

Been saving up tokens since I first started levelling dungeoneering. The only thing I bought was a gem bag to gain some bank space, now I have 42k tokens, and am willing to go DGing for more.

The question I have is: what is the best reward for me? I'll list the options that I might buy, even if it is remotely possible that I will, along with any information pertaining to changes I have heard about, and personal info that is relevant:

Twisted Bird Skull Necklace: I don't bury bones often enough to make this thing worthwhile.

Coal Bag: might be worth it if smelting is actually profitable, however I personally use Artisan's Workshop to smith.

Longbow Sight: Currently, sighted magic longbows are bugged and are still P2P, however this looks like a decent option. The problem that I have is that I really don't need the extra accuracy given by the sight.

Gravite Weaponry: I don't PK, so I'm not sure if gravite is a wise investment. For training, it's still as bad as always.

Amulet of Zealots: helluva expensive, for only a temporary boost in damage that I probably won't use. Has it been made worthwhile?

Law/Nature staves: last I checked, using these would give you a return of only 4 gp or so per cast, or even loss of profit compared to using a fire staff (for high alchemy). Have things changed?

Tome of Frost: I've been eyeing this item for a while, however the recent changes to staves means that I have to choose in between this tome or a staff to save runes, which is a questionable advantage now that spells are so cheap. Stat-wise, it has only 2 damage points more than the bat book.

Arcane Blast Necklace: Haven't heard of any changes to it, but I hear it's great for some extra damage when training, especially now that mage combat training is worth it again.

Scroll of Efficiency: Again, I use Artisan's Workshop. If normal smithing is better xp/gp used, I might consider it.

So what do you guys think? Right now I am looking at a Sight, and the AB Necklace, but I don't know if tome of frost is actually worth more.

Sighted bows were really unbalanced at some point in the Beta, massive damage output and defence (better than Zaryte at that point). They would still be good probably, especially in f2p where there's no competition from higher-tier bows.

Gravite is still meh I think. At least the 2h's problem with low slash attack isn't there anymore (I hope).

Tome of Frost is the only 1h rune saving item now. Sorta meh, but ok.

Blast necklace is ok, not sure on the stats on power amulets, but every little bit helps.

Adamant plates are much cheaper than Artisan's afaik, and SoE helps there.

Thanks. I'm looking into getting the sight first seeing that I'm ranging right now. Defence and accuracy isn't really needed, however, seeing that there's nearly no missing or eating done at lessers with 71 ranged.

Is SoE mith plate smithing cheaper than AW? I don't have the levels for addy plates yet.

From what I gathered, gravite bow is currently the best f2p bow still so it would be worth looking into. Other gravites are always good to have, especially the 2h. I'd wait and see if they fix the magic sight bow, if they don't you'd be better off going with gravite bow, tokens aren't that hard to get now with combat nerf removed.

Law/Nature staves are the best non-degrading staves in f2p. They have an accuracy rating of 530. Compare that to the basic elemental staves (10), Caitlin's Staff (50) the bat wand and book (450 and 50 to add up to 500) and the gravite staff (550) and you can see they're actually quite good, provided you don't mind paying for the extra runes. I've found that they absolutely kill it in FoG. If you were to get either of them, I would recommend the nature staff, purely because it will hold nature runes for binds, although I guess that's a little less necessary now since we have a stunning ability, but I would certainly recommend getting one of them. I would only recommend the gravite staff if you're really desperate for that extra edge but both the initial cost and recharge cost really aren't worth the extra 20 accuracy in my opinion. It's not like previously where it was leaps and bounds better than other staves, so don't bother.

Tomb of frost is roughly equivalent to the bat book as you mentioned (48 accuracy for tome, 50 for book) but saves water runes. Not really sure you'd want to use it unless you have air runes coming out of your ears. After all dual wielding magic means twice as many spells, means twice as many runes and as previously mentioned law/nature staves still have greater stats. Overall, probably not worth it.

Longbow sights will be worth it once magic bows are fixed if you range a lot, however, it really just boosts the maple long bow from a level 30 to level 45 weapon meaning that the basic magic longbow is still better than the maple longbow sighted. Magic sighted longbow, (if it gets fixed) will be a level 55 weapon, essentially a 'gravite longbow' if that makes sense. As for the gravite shortbow, it's a similar situation to law/nature staves and gravite staff, although it's stat increases over the magic shortbow are a little more significant - 510 damage 550 accuracy vs 463 damage 500 accuracy. Again, it's your call on this one.

Amongst other gravite weaponry I could only really recommend the 2h, but even so, it's up to you on whether you think it's worthwhile over the rune 2h. Gravite long and rapier and also now the same speed and stats, the only difference being the style, so if you must have a 1h gravite weapon, only get one of them, remembering that stab/slash are irrelevant in pvp now.

Blast Neck has a critical hit bonus of 3.5 vs magic amulet of 3.2. More worthwhile than gravite weaponry since it doesn't degrade. As for the twisted bird skull necklace, it's prayer bonus has dropped from 9 to 3 making it worse than a holy symbol. No longer worth it. The amulet of zealots, on the other hand, has had its prayer bonus boosted from -8 to -5, so it's less bad. Having said that, I think it's now the only necklace in f2p to directly increase damage output (although only while praying) so that might make it worthwhile, although I don't know how this relates to critical hit bonuses and the tradeoffs made there. Also, I'm not entirely sure how well prayer is working, especially in relation to abilities, so you'd be taking a pretty big risk buying it.

tl;dr get one of law staff or nature staff, don't bother with tome, wait until sighted magic longbow is fixed before getting longbow sight, get blast neck if you want the extra 0.3 crit over mage ammy, dont get twisted bird skull neck or amulet of zealots and don't really bother with gravite unless you feel you absolutely positively need the edge they will give you and can afford the cost.

Longbow sights now increase stats across the board instead of just accuracy. So if you're using a shieldbow, the sighted version is definitely better than the unsighted one.

In my opinion i think you should get the Coal Bag and SoE for a few different reasons.

The Coal Bag is never a bad choice especially in f2p. F2pers superheat a fair amount to make some gp and exerience. If you are looking for a really good guide that shows the xp/hr and how many ores to use and what not i suggest looking up "Water's f2p superheating guide" on youtube. Remember, this is pre-EOC but it will still help you with a few different things.

Now the SoE is just good becase you can save GP which is always nice. :)

That's something I didn't know, thanks!

I'm still wondering if mith plates with SoE is better than AW armour using iron I.

Also, I bought a sight, and it seems that they fixed the magic sighted longbow so that you can't make it in F2P (before, you could make it, but it would remain a member's item).

So we have access to Magic Longbows but can't add the sight to them? That sucks.

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

For tome of frost I think it will depend where air runes end up price wise.

From playing with equipment(not using) for attack speed wands gave me a "fastest" while staff "average".

If airs go back under 10ish the extra xp and speed may be worth the ~30 gp/spell. If airs are 15, I would stick with air blast. and just learnt staffs give a bonus to auto attacks, so a big *shrug* from me =].
