Just had my beta sign up email for Transformers Universe.

Made an account and awaiting news if I've been selected for early beta access.

 

My only concern so far is that you pre-select your side, just hoping game doesn't become too one-sided i.e. more AUtobots than decepticons.

 

I am intrigued to how TU will handle combat and a skill system, will we see a EoC style combat with abilities etc. and how will we have to upgrade our characters, wil we be forced into hand to hand combat if we have no ammo, or get allocated a sling style weapon that is low hits but unlimited ammo, some sort of wrist cannon? Maybe we can earn parts from pvp kills to fuse with our characters, the possibilities would be endless.

 

Anyway very much looking forward to TU, just hope Jagex don't ruin the game.

I got the same email too, and I'm think about signing up. Tbh, I was really hoping for some "Hey guys we gonna release Stellar Dawn!" but this looks interesting. However, I don't know how much time I'll really spend in the beta bewteen school, runescape (soon to be miecraft aswell) and the social life I should be having. Also, I wonder, will it be a click and walk type thing, or will we be able to us wasd or the arrow keys?

However, I don't know how much time I'll really spend in the beta bewteen school, runescape (soon to be miecraft aswell) and the social life I should be having. Also, I wonder, will it be a click and walk type thing, or will we be able to us wasd or the arrow keys?

I'm really hoping Jagex get away from the click and point movement and make TU work via the WASD method, I just can't imagine transformers being restricted to point and click. And before anyone tries to say it won't be possible in a browser game, Jagex have employed the same WASD feature into there latest FB game I have beta access to called Carnage Racing.

I honestly don't see how Jagex can't make wasd/arrow key movements. I'm not computer programmer myself, but I've coded those keys before and plenty of games use those keys. So it'd be foolish on their part not too. However, I must admit I'm not so good with wasd/arrow keys so it might take a while for me to get used to it.

I heard from a certain someone that not only has the client's graphics engine been completely rewritten for the Transformer's MMO, but that the server architecture has faced extensive changes because of the radically different game play from RuneScape... Take it as you will :P!

 

Though this very well could be well known. I haven't kept up with the Transformers MMO...

If you get accepted into closed-beta, you can not take screenshots, videos, or post anything about the game due to a NDA. :( So much for posting data here.

Looks like, based on the email I just received, that closed beta seems to be open to certain players with high level tech specifications based on there survey and computer stat check they ran before. Kind of a annoyed I wasn't in that group of said testers but I can understand there reasoning they gave, that the tech requirements are too high for some people so far to handle

You may have already seen some of our activity withEdge magazine as we begin to share more about Transformers Universe with the world. We have also begun a small, closed BETA test focusing on a slice of combat features with a limited group of BETA sign-ups. These BETA participants have been selected based on their ability to meet high computer specifications. As development continues the system demands reduce, allowing us to support a broad range of computers to ensure all can access the BETA in due course.

 

This initial closed BETA event is just the start of our ongoing BETA campaign, we will be adding more content to our BETA test over the coming months and will be calling on more people to help test it.

I'll be very interested what becomes of this. It kinda feels like it's Jagex's last chance of ensuring long term survival. There already have been so many failed tries to branch off from Runescape in the past, they really need to succeed with this one. From the description in the article, it sounds good, but of course that's no guarantee...

Just read that Jagex have changed the game from an MMORPG to a MOBA (muliplayer online battle arena) a bold move considering this game was pegged as an MMORPG for as long as I can remember. Can't wait to get beta access and see what it's all about though still.

That format makes more sense, given the source material.

Wow. That's a bold move for a company known primarily for a MMORPG.

 

Still, I agree with Alg that it makes sense. Makes me wish my comp was better so I could look forward to trying it.

Tapping into the MOBA market then. A bit late to the pie, but at least it's not rotting like the MMO pie.

Meh, I'd still play a MOBA. I mean, it Transformers. Unless it's completely horrid I imaging bot fighting is fun. Right. RIGHT?
